Next up: Miami

Post by BGSU33 »

Sometimes the best way to forget a tough loss is to look ahead to the next game on the schedule. Funny enough, if there's been one team in the MAC we've had pretty good success against over the last five years, it is Miami. Since the 2000-01 season, BG is 6-2 against Miami including a pair of wins in Oxford. They thumped us pretty good last year in the MAC Tournament, but aside from that, we've done pretty well against them. They are a team that plays pretty similar to us in that they work the ball around to set up a good shot and they get after you defensively. I've seen Miami play twice this year, against Akron and Ohio, and like I said in another post, there's no reason why we can't beat a team like Miami even on the road. I hope we can go down there and play like we did against Kent State. If we can avoid digging ourselves a big hole and hang tough down the stretch, we can get a win down there.

There's no reason why BG can't win this game. There is so much parity in the MAC every single year, that just about anyone can win on another's court.

You're right: BG and Miami are pretty similar. Neither team brings its "A" game every time...nor their A or B games. In fact for Miami, it seems to be A or D. Case in point today against Ohio. If Miami played like that every game, they would win the league. But they won't play like that all the time.

I expect a very tight game. In the mid-50's probably. The point has come in the season for each team to choose its destiny. Will Miami "figure itself out" after today's game and make a stab for the league title? Will BG decide that they are contender and play hard every night and knock out some pretenders?

My guess is Miami 57 and BG 52. If it was at Andersen, swap that...easily. Akron should count their lucky stars they escaped today. It has to be the toughest place to play in the MAC. Arguably in the top 3.

I agree that a game in the 50’s is probably in order. As I've said before, Miami is my second favorite team to BG in the MAC. I’ve always had a good deal of respect for Miami’s athletic programs and I like the campus a lot. That was a nice win for you guys today over Ohio, always nice to get a big win over your rival on their home floor. I'm hoping BG can bounce back from today and put on a good showing against Miami. This has been such a roller-coaster of a season for the Falcons so far, I just hope they can continue to display the resiliency they’ve shown all year and go down to Oxford and get a win.

I had a question about Millett Hall that maybe someone here or a Miami fan that stops by AZZ can help me with. I saw the capacity for Miami's Millett Hall is now listed at around 6,500 this year. For years, it was listed at 9,200. Does anyone know why this figure has changed? Did they do some renovations, remove seats, close areas off? I haven't been to Millett in a few years and was wondering why this figure has changed.

I went to a couple of games at Millet last year and they do hang drapes to cordon off the section of the Hall behind the backboard.

They have a tough time getting the kids in Oxford to show up to anything. Even with the smaller seating area, it was still a lethargic atmosphere. Almost everyone in there was an alumni or a little kid.

It's gonna be a tough game...usually is when BG and Miami get together. What are the odds on 120 combined points?

Miami looked very good in Athens.

Yes...the drapes are the reason for the capacity change. Lethargic? Yeah, pretty much. We've had countless threads on MHT devoted to solving that problem. It's about as hard as figuring out how to split atoms safely, solving Rubix Cube faster than 12 seconds, why Star Wars I and putting your kids to bed every night. The wonders of the world.

I would change your sentence on getting students to show up for stuff: Hockey sells out all the time, and would be ALL students if it weren't for people like me. Football typically gets about half the student population out to games that don't have torrential rains/tornadoes/dangerously high winds associated with them. But overall football attendance is another issue as it is for ALL of us.

Guess well wait till August to have that conversation.

But right now it's hockey and basketball season!

In retrospect, I know nothing about splitting atoms.

Nor do I know nothing about putting kids to bed...as I don't have any, yet.

I actually don't mind Millett Hall. It's not my favorite MAC arena, but it's better than a lot of places I have seen. The idea of blocking some of the seats is probably a good idea in there. I've seen Auburn do this in basketball a lot as well. And if you ever need the seats, they are there for the use.

Not the score I was thhinking but the result was the same. A win for Miami.

But as I said earlier...neither team brings its A game everytime. This time BG didn't, but the tables can easily turn the next time.

I didn't expect Miami to score that many points, furthermore I didn't expect BG to roll over at points either.
