O.+B,
I think that Dr. Desert was alluding to the fact that there are few (if any) D - 2 schools in Ohio.... I think Dayton was at one time...not sure of their current status.....as to D-3....Ohio is LOADED.....Mt. Union being the best known, but B-W, O.Northern, Capital, JCU etc., have all been to the playoffs, I believel, within the past few years.

What he said.orangeandbrown wrote:I personally worry when we recruit too much from Ohio. Our best recruiting classes have included significant out of state players.
We can always fill a roster with Ohio kids -- even outstanding Ohio kids, but the thing is you never know.
Going out of state implies we are being more selective.

Just to add this...in today's Akron Beacon Journal....
They have the recruiting classes of Akron, Kent State and OSU.
Akron has 13 commitments listed...TWO are from Ohio. The Zips have guys coming in from Kansas (2 JUCO's), Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Maryland, Washington DC and Pennsylvania.
OSU has a list of 19 commitments...8 or 9 at best, are from Ohio.

One Ohio kid that I'm glad we have (or hope to have) is Jahmal Brown. I watched his video on Rivals other other day....man that kid is impressive.
on defense he plays NASTY. He has no qualms about supporting the run. Very reminiscent of TJ Carswell in that he's a 200 lb or so safety that would like nothing better than to belt you in the mouth.
As a RB, he very much reminds me of a smaller Kevin Jones. He has the speed to reach the corner, but he is very tough between the tackles. He has Jones' knack for making guys miss in close quarters and he is very strong.
He could run for a TON of yards if we keep at RB

Rivals show OSU with 20 commitments. 11 are from Ohio. More importantly, 8 of the top 9 are from Ohio.Falconfreak90 wrote:Just to add this...in today's Akron Beacon Journal....

I know that Rivals is in love with Akron's class, but that is because Rivals' team ranking formula is messed-up. If you look at the individual player rankings, Akron's don't stack up to much of the rest of the MAC. Overall, Akron's class doesn't look that great. I still prefer ours, Turd's, Miami, and NIU's over Akron's.

Mike,
That's why I said in another thread, or early in this one, that Akron has NOT done much visible in Ohio; And as to OSU....let's just be honest and say that Tressel has virtually "locked the door" on Blue chip kids leaving the state in past 3 years, unlike Cooper... unfortunately, it gives virtually no chance for a MAC school, including us, to "steal" one of those kids away. I'm still concerned that we keep Ohio, especially NE and SW in our recruiting base, and not lose sight of quality kids here.... as I said earlier, we've done extremely well in GA. and FLA. in recent years and I don't say sign an Ohio kid before those Sharons and Omars of the world...but I don't want to lose any PJ Popes to other schools either.

Agree on all points, Den. We definitely shouldn't turn our backs on the home state...Class of 61 wrote:BGSUfalcons wrote:Rivals show OSU with 20 commitments. 11 are from Ohio. More importantly, 8 of the top 9 are from Ohio.Falconfreak90 wrote:Just to add this...in today's Akron Beacon Journal....

I'm be happy if we can compete with BCS schools other than Michigan and OSU for kids in Ohio. If either on of those guys or Notre Dame really want a kid....we can probably forget it.
But, there are a lot of other kids that get scholarships to Big 10 and Big East schools that we should be able to compte for.
Scout.com has video of Anthony Glaud up....he's basically runnning our offense right now. He looks like he has a good arm, a quick release and he's very accurate. I can see why he's got a combined 41/11 TD/INT ratio
over the past two years.
If they want to move Barnes to WR, hecould be ATs back up next year...

Aren't you jumping the gun a little? Have a true freshman as the backup to a QB that hasn't proven he can handle the starting job yet? You have to include someone with experience to backup Turner.Scout.com has video of Anthony Glaud up....he's basically runnning our offense right now. So far as game experience goes...Van Johnson is the only guy other than Turner who's taken any snaps. I don't think they want to keep him at QB.
So, you can either have Barnes, a guy with no collegiate QB experience that you may want to move to WR or true freshmen Glaud/Sheehan as your QB back ups. If your set on moving Barnes, what choice do you have but to have a freshman back up?
The only alternative I see is signing a JC QB over the summer a la Jason Washington.

Funny story here. The other day I decided to sim some seasons on the NCAA '06 video game. I didn't pay a lot of attention to BG in that first season (2005), other than the fact that UT beat them in the MACC Game but BG went 11-2 including their bowl game victory. However, at the start of the 2006 season, I noticed that Corey Partridge was a Preseason 1st Team All-American. Omar went pro after the 2005 season too, btw.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Two words.
