Sweet.
I hate to kind of pull a falconboy on this one, but you guys and gals that don't frequent the women's forum or care about women's sports might want to seriously consider checking out the game on Wednesday. This one might get you hooked on the women's team. Sorry for the thread jack.
Some of us who have been on and with Grant's board from the start know there has been a fair amount of change over the last five years in particular. This forum is the corner stone of BGSU fandom on the web. Indeed, there really aren't any other forums out there aside from this one.
I've seen this forum's member base evolve to include far more young fans than its early years. That has changed the tone of the board. I have seen the growing membership diversify to include folks that have a far wider range of priorities. The way this membership base responds to various views has naturally changed along with everything else. I have seen changes like this on a lot of forums.
I think to some extent a forum reaches a point where folks don't want to stray from the comfy home they know. The clash of personalities which occasionally takes place becomes almost personal to people. The lack of other active forums means there are few pressure valves to let people vent.
This forum is more mild and level headed than most forums I know. Frankly I think that reflects the nature of BGSU, its supporting community, and the alumni. Taking a break from it however isn't a bad thing either.
That said, the nature of communicating on the Internet is such that emotions are distilled to a really very high proof. Some folks like the deep body of members here, but don't always share philosophies as to “how things should be.” I've seen forums, I have owned and run forums, that have turned from insightful and technically orientated, to places for rah-rah speeches and pep rallies. People need to avoid thinking their view or philosophy is the one true path.
The Marquis of Queensberry rules don't reign here unless otherwise stated. So bring your own grains of salt when reading or posting. Simply because the color orange is used, and BGSU athletics are the subject, does not therefore mean only those wishing to give rah-rah speeches and post “supportive” comments are welcome or right.
Frankly I don't think the Rah-Rah crowd has a right to feel things should always be supportive or non-critical of either student athletes or coaches. There isn't any harm in rah-rah speeches, but those giving them should remember a few things. Student athletes should be well aware that the nature of what they do will bring with it critical comments, opinions, cheers, and boos. If one strays into this or any other forum, it is their obligation to understand that, not my own to restrict what I say because, gosh darn, it might hurt somebody's feelings.
The Boo Birds also need to be mindful that the pastime of sports gossip and comment is prone to wild extremes of opinion. The Internet has made too many people lazy and undisciplined when it comes to making a rational comment. People post when angry, are influenced by the direction the crowd goes, and generally make exaggerations worthy of the Oprah Book Club or predictions worthy of Blizzard Bill Spencer.
When a forum fails, it is because the balance between these two general groups isn't maintained. What hasn't happened with the BGSU community, is the normal splintering, where folks of one mindset either leave for friendly turf drive others away.
This site is Grant's site, first and foremost. What he chooses to make of it is entirely his prerogative. We are guests in his world. He has every right to guide the forum in a direction if he so chooses. He has a right to toss the keys to the inmates and watch the fun if that is his wish. We can't demand that he step-in and take sides. That takes time and creates a burden that none would wish onto him. Thus we should treat this place, and each other with the same attitude and courtesy we would if we were meeting and talking in his front room. Regardless of your opinion or hurt feelings, to do anything less is plain rude to Grant as much as anybody else.
Now, since we are all guests in Grants living room, were the heck are the beer nuts man! SERVICE! SERVICE!

I MIGHT bring you beer nuts if you used the right words. Purgative?? WTF is purgative??? I'm guessing syrup of ipecac is a purgative... but the word you're looking for is prerogative. Bobby Brown sang about it... Ask Whitney.
I don't say much on this website anymore. I occasionally try to inject some humor. I rarely comment on the teams, coaches, players or even the members of this website. It's tiring, and it's not really worth my effort. People will continue to be who they are. I can't change them, so I won't waste my energy trying.
I didn't even read your whole post, Nathan... no offense, I just don't think it's that important. I'm glad the site is here, I still love BG sports, and always will, but does it makes sense to let it get to me like it gets to some? Hell no... life is too short and there are FAR more important things to worry about than all the douchemonkeys around here.

That was the point I was making in the part you did read.

There, the Marquess of Bowling Green has exercised his prerogative to correct his post.
And good lord people, Grant included, I honestly don't care if you actually read every word of all the posts I make. Truly I don't. But don't carp about there being more important things to worry about, then point out every mistake or whine about the fact that I type a lot. If it annoys you, or you find it amusing that I can and do post at length, keep it to yourselves. I just try to sum things up and make a point or two.
Here is the short version for those with short attention spans: Everybody needs to get off of everybody else's back unless they are being overtly rude.
And H2O, since you were in the mood to make corrections, it was Queensberry not Queensbury so you know.

No offense meant-and I liked your post-obviously since I read it closely enough to find one of the two or three typos out of one thousand words. I wish we shot free throws half that well! I just thought Marcus was probably a better name for a boxing guy anyway!

None taken, tis what I get for trying to draw the name and spelling out of listing to Victor McLaglen's half-dozen uses of it in the movies.

Never mind... point totally missed (and yet illustrated all at once).
I will now post a map of Panama.
