This Combine is incredibly vital for Omar after Charlie Whitehurst and Brodie Croyle boosted their draft stock at the Senior Bowl. If he bombs at the Combine, he can drop out of the top 5 QBs and possibly all the way down to the 4th-5th round. Pretty bad for a guy considered a 1st round prospect for the first half of the season.

Don't know if you saw the "QB Skills" competion on TV yesterday, but Vince Young won EASILY as both Croyle and Whitehurst looked rather anemic....know this isn't a true test, but I was disappointed to see that Omar wasn't invited since it looked like it took place in Fla.. Leinart was nowhere to be seen either, so I don't know how they chose the competitors...Olsen of UCLA was also there.... NOONE of the QB's except for Young could hit the large "basket" they'd posted about 30+ yrds downfield for example; Young hit it dead center, then hit the other target while high stepping through an obstacle course.Im_Full wrote:This Combine is incredibly vital for Omar after Charlie Whitehurst and Brodie Croyle boosted their draft stock at the Senior Bowl. Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
You have to think Omar is working pretty hard at trying to be as ready as possible for the combine. I don't think he needs to play in this silly event. I'd hope he is working on his throwing drills from under center.
Again, don't necessarily look at how fast Omar runs, how many reps he puts up, what his vertical, short shuttle. The vonderlic test and most importantly the passing drills will be the key. No matter how poorly or well he does, he'll get another chance during BG's pro day in March/early April.
It will be interesting to see if his agent advises him not to do a certain drill at the combine.

I missed that, but I don't think those have much weight on a player's draft stock. If a team is in love with Whitehurst and Croyle from the Senior Bowl, I'd think they would still be. I'm surprised Omar wasn't there either. He's gonna go alot earlier than some think. I think Mel Kiper has him as his 7th QB. He will not be the 7th QB off the board.Class of 61 wrote:Don't know if you saw the "QB Skills" competion on TV yesterday, but Vince Young won EASILY as both Croyle and Whitehurst looked rather anemic....know this isn't a true test, but I was disappointed to see that Omar wasn't invited since it looked like it took place in Fla.. I think Leinart has kept himself out of all non-mandatory public work outs thus far. I have no idea why, but I'd imagine it's because he's too swimming in his pool full of 100s.Class of 61 wrote:Don't know if you saw the "QB Skills" competion on TV yesterday, but Vince Young won EASILY as both Croyle and Whitehurst looked rather anemic....know this isn't a true test, but I was disappointed to see that Omar wasn't invited since it looked like it took place in Fla.. That, or doesn't want to get injured.
