BG vs. Wisconsin
Im at a miss with something...can anyone tell me why we are playing Wisconsin at Cleveland Browns Stadium and not the Doyt? Ive heard it was because we couldnt accomodate 40,000 in seating and ive that that is a rule for big 10 teams...can anyone clear this up for me? thanks

FEAR THE BIRD!

I had heard that a good deal of it was Wisky wanting to keep recruiting ties in NE Ohio since they don't play at OSU for a few years. However, it works out for us as well, hopefully, since we count it as a home game, and keep a large portion of what promises to be a decent gate. It would be great to get a game like that at home, a packed Doyt with a promise of at least warm (if not nice) weather, but financially, and as far as reconnecting with NE Ohio alumni, this is a solid move for BG.
On the downside, it forces the students to make a trip, but with the long weekend anyway and many students coming from the Cleveland area, hopefully they'll make the game a part of a trip home.
As far as your theory, I'm pretty sure Big Ten schools have played at MAC stadiums that seat less than 40K. IU played at Ball State and/or CMU, I believe, recently, and I'd be shocked if either of those stadiums have more than 40 thousand seats.

There is no Big Ten rule. Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern and Indiana are among the Big Ten teams that have played in MAC stadiums.svillefalcon wrote:Im at a miss with something...can anyone tell me why we are playing Wisconsin at Cleveland Browns Stadium and not the Doyt? The real issue, I must assume, is that the money just didn't work out trying to play this game in Perry Stadium.
Wisconsin may have the most rabid following in the Big Ten after the three obvious choices at the top (Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State). They will travel to this game. Perry Stadium doesn't have enough seats to accommodate everyone who will want to see this game.

As to playing in MAC stadia w/ "less than 40K" capacity, UT, OU, Miami are all schools who've hosted Big 10 schools in past few years if I recall correctly, and No one in the MAC has that kind of seating capacity.Schadenfreude wrote:There is no Big Ten rule. That said, cutting down the Doyt to around 24K by removing the endzone seating on both the N and S ends would practically guarantee that we couldn't get a "biggie" in here.... I only hope we fill the place when Boise comes to town.

It is for the band and there won't be much seating added to the Doyt as a result of the Sebo project (unless there have been some major changes to the design, which I doubt). It will be interesting to see what the next project for the stadium is after the Sebo Ctr. is completed. I would very much like to see the south end enclosed, even with a half-bowl, perhaps with room on top for the Falcon Club tent. That, along with some structural/aesthetic work to the existing structure would make the Doyt a world-class facility.always a falcon wrote:Can't tell you right now about the capacity- will find out. But I am pretty sure it is for the band!BGSUfalcons wrote:Does anyone know the capacity of the seating that is connected to Sebo? Also, will that be for the band or students or GA?
Because it would appear that we are going to have this conversation again, I would like to kick it off by stating that although we have had attendence issues, there is no reason that we shouldn't expand our seating capacity, so long as we are improving and increasing our ammenities. I guarantee you, if we were to increase the access to and the quality of our concessions alone, we would see much better attendance on a regular basis. It sounds silly, I know, but people want to be able to get a coffee in under a half-hour, especially when it is cold. It is too bad that a lot of people are so superficial, but if we want to increase attendance, we absolutely have no choice but to cater to them.

I would imagine 400 seats connected to the Sebo Center at the most. I have no problem with a 25,000 - 30,000 seat stadium with the ammenities Bleading Orange mentioned. I would like to see the south endzone enclosed as well, but with a 7500 seat convocation center. It would be quite easy to incorporate both the bookstore and Falcon Club into the design of the facility. Long term, lower the field 5 - 10 feet and add some landscaping. Also, with so many offices moving into the Sebo Center, replace the east and west side seating to something modern. Lets use the Sebo Center as our blueprint for a total cosmetic overhaul of our athletic facilities. If just makes sence to have everything in one area of campus.

Just thought of something...as any of you who've been to OSU or Mich. more than once should be able to verify.... Prior to OSU's "lowering" the field, their capacity INCREASED....how? by making the individual seats narrower, hence more bodies in the same space... and when a friend of mine took me to the OSU/Mich game several yrs. ago, we litereally had to sit sideways to fit into the 111,000 or whatever were listed as being there.
So, all we have to do is: 1. redo our seat numbers closer together and 2. All of us lose some weight (which probably isn't a bad idea when you think of it). 8)

The Doyt could definitely use some cosmetic work...some of the concrete is crumbling and we all remember what happened last year with that concrete slab.
But I can see it becoming the premier stadium in the MAC with the work that's now underway and more to come.
I thought we couldn't lower the field for some reason? Anyone know? I would love to see it lowered at least a few feet.
