I thought we couldn't lower the field for some reason? Anyone know? I would love to see it lowered at least a few feet.

I've already dropped 25 pounds in the last 9-12 months. I've done my part. LOL! But I'll drop another 20 to help out.
Thanks to Tae Bo. Billy Blanks is da man.
GO FALCONS!

OSU increased some of its capacity by removing the track, lowering the field, then filling in the open area with a lower row of seats. It’s not that many rows, I’m guess maybe eight or so, but they run all the way around the horseshoe. Ohio U. did essentially the same thing by removing the track and adding lower seats which also increased their capacity in the process. What happened at OSU when they lowered the field though was, by digging into the ground they tapped deeper into the water table below the field (mainly due to the river running next to the stadium) and they had to install high-pressure pumps at the stadium to keep the field from getting saturated. This allowed them to make the renovation, keep their grass and add seats. In Ohio U.’s case, Peden Stadium also sits next to a river and when they did their renovations, afterwards they noticed a major problem with their turf, (they did not add pumps). Their grass was tearing up and the sod/water table was causing issues. They actually had to change from grass to Fieldturf because the grass would tear up and wouldn’t grow solid on the field. Any of you that went to the BG/OU game in 2001 may remember seeing the turf falling apart as it was also late in the year. But that’s pretty much how schools like OSU & OU did those renovations and added seats.Class of 61 wrote:Just thought of something...as any of you who've been to OSU or Mich. more than once should be able to verify.... Prior to OSU's "lowering" the field, their capacity INCREASED....how?
GO BG!!!
If you can find the info on OSU's under ground pump system, I remember reading about it way back when it was first installed...simply mind boggling. Full of sensors and computer controls to ensure that the correct amount of moisture is always in the ground. I don't think we'd have the same issue with that low of a water table (could be wrong), but if we did the OSU system is WAY out of our budget, I'm sure.
We got something OSU doesn't: the Poe Ditch.

Yeah, I remember seeing OSU's pump system on TV. They had some guy giving the camera person a tour and talking all about how it works, etc. It was pretty impressive....and very expensive.hammb wrote:If you can find the info on OSU's under ground pump system, I remember reading about it way back when it was first installed...simply mind boggling. For BG to become a premier MAC stadium would take quite a bit of money and effort...The Doyt could definitely use some cosmetic work...some of the concrete is crumbling and we all remember what happened last year with that concrete slab.
But I can see it becoming the premier stadium in the MAC with the work that's now underway and more to come.
I thought we couldn't lower the field for some reason? Anyone know? I would love to see it lowered at least a few feet.

To crack the top 3 stadiums in the MAC right now... Waldo, Yager, and the Ass Bowl would take a tremendous contribution to the stadium. These three stadiums have the best concessions, sight lines, and scoreboards in the MAC.
Perry's two biggest problems are the steepness or lack their of the seating plan, and the tunnels into the stadium. Concessions would also need drastic upgrading to even begin of thoughts of being a premier facility.
Akron will likely jump ahead of BG with their new stadium if it comes to fruition.
