Nope.

The 2006 Wisconsin game will be the first time BG hosts a Big 10 team.
And now this 2008 Minnesota game will be the first time BG hosts a Big 10 team at the Doyt.

Shortsighted - NO. There is no need to put in more seats into the Doyt just because of one game a season. We don't fill up the place now as it is. I say keep the seating where it is at and when we bring in the teams that people want to see, let them pay to see those teams. Make it the ticket to get. Contrary to popular belief (or the belief of TU fans in Lucas County) you do not need to have a stadium of 30,000+ seats to be able to enjoy a football game.

Selfish - NO.
Sarcastic - Most definitely.
I believe the thought was to bring in temporary bleachers. UT used to do this for big games. You can rent them for a few days, install them a day or two before the game and uninstall them the next day.

As for your UT, yes it is UT, popular belief.......UT's stadium seats 26,248 so I have no clue where your 30K+ statement came from.

Certainly, that beats a road game, but I have my fingers crossed that the game would be at the Doyt. Since the capacity is down to 24,000, I think temp. seating would be needed in the south endzone.
Actually Kent's Dix Stadium holds over 30,000 while Canton's Fawcett Stadium holds just a little over 22,000 so any move of that game to Canton wouldn't be for capacity purposes.

I didn't mean to imply that it was.

Does anyone know why this link took off the 2006 games?

http://nationalchamps.net/NCAA/future_s ... future.htm

Anyone have the list of them?

I know it's Ohio State, Wisconsin, Boise State, and Florida International - anyone have the dates?

Dix Stadium holds 30k? Even with the new seating I find that to be a great stretch.

According to Kent's official website it seats 30,520.

Even more recently than playing at Toledo in 2001, Minnesota played at Ohio U. in 2003. OU's Peden Stadium only has a capacity of about 24,000.

OK, I'll be crass and dump some reality on the topic.

I'm hoping for the best. However, if our team sucks, or stands to suck going into 2008, we won't need any extra seats and won't sell-out.

That said, it is Minnesota, so folks will have a fair reason to expect a win regardless of how good or bad we are.

We “host” Wisconsin, but to be fair, I don't consider it a home game. Play a team in Doyt L. Perry Stadium, then its a home game. Until then, its simply a game with a cool PR angle.

Finally, my first thought on this is that it is well beyond time for this kind of thing to happen. I await more games like it.

I can't believe we gave up another Michigan game for a second tier Big Ten "home" game.

I'd rather play Minnesota at home over Michigan on the road any day.

Having moved out west, I've come to find a very funny truth in life: outside of the Midwest, no one really gives a sh!t about Michigan or Ohio State, or their rivalry for that matter. You'd never know it living in Ohio, but there are more than a billion people in China that don't know the OSU/Michigan game is happening every year...

Nationally, in terms of name recognition, Michigan=Minnesota. Excellent home pickup for BG.
