I am sure there are more, but those are some that had a significant NFL career and played at BG.
Let's not foreget Greg Meehan and more importantly, Charlie Williams.

Now Nathan - you know that is not a decline for the spring because they factored a smaller enrollment into the budget. 8)

Owens will be one of the biggest schools in the State within 3-4 years. I hear BGSU has 3 times more applications then they can accept for 2006/2007.

Its the law of numbers, BG routinely accepts more than 3 times the number of students that eventually come to BG. All schools do this. 3x our current applications would be about 30 to 40 thousand kids applied to BG. If I remember the stats, usually about 10-12K apply, 8 or 9K are accepted, and then the 2500 or whatever enroll.
Transfer will clear it all up.

We have had over 10,000 freshmen apply for admission to BGSU for the Fall 2006 semester. We hit 10,000 about two weeks ago.

Our matriculation rate is in the 38-39% range.

The link below shows Fall 2000-2004 information:

http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/ir/factbook ... STATISTICS:

Now is when we start to get a feel for the incoming class.
A. It's time to complete the Financial Aid forms and see the financial aid awards
B. The housing booklets have gone out and students are starting to complete the housing preferences and pay the $200 deposit
C. We'll mail out information on O-Reg in late April and begin to track housing deposits paid with O-Reg reservations.

Owens CC does not have the impact on BG as it does UT. You have to remember that the price at Owens CC is approximately 1/3 of the price of UT and BG. When a student can jump on a TARTA bus and show their Owens CC ID and get to campus for free - OR - jump on the TARTA and get to UT for free, that tuition charge is a big factor.

If you receive a full Pell Grant and Ohio Challenge Opportunity Grant to attend Owens CC - you're going to get money back, whereas if you attend UT, you're still going to owe another $2,500 (approximately). You get money back to go to Owens or you can spend additional $$$ to attend UT. In my opinion - THAT is why UT is hurt more by Owens than BG.

So now I know you don't read ALL of my posts. I've linked into the Fact Book a few times when we discuss enrollment issues. I have that one bookmarked on both of my laptops (office and at home). Definitely a great resource.

Goose wrote:I just found a website that gives you a comprehensive list of every former NFL player and NBA player. It has an option that allows you to run a query to pull out players who attended particular schools. Here are the results for BG and Toledo, for those who are comparing the two:

http://www.databasefootball.com/players ... reen+State

http://www.databasefootball.com/players ... sch=Toledo

http://www.databasebasketball.com/playe ... University

http://www.databasebasketball.com/playe ... +of+Toledo

I'm not clear of the criteria they are using for former players or how often the database is updated, because I did not see names like Josh Harris, Sean Suisham, Lance Moore or Todd France.

Both schools are pretty even as far as the number of football players is concerned, but BG looks to have the advantage in quality and quantity of NBA players.

Regarding the listing of professional football players from Toledo, I have three words for our webmaster: ED SCRUTCHINS
One thing I noticed is that it only shows through 2004, so guys like Lance Moore, Sean Suisham, Todd France, and Nick Kaczur are not going to be on the list there. Neither would Cole Magner who I believe was at least on someone's practice squad and may have even been on the active roster for a game or two.

Right, those pages are a nice start but they are missing a number of current or former NFL players who have been on NFL rosters in recent years. I've also included those players that were at least invited into NFL camps in the recent past as well. Here's some those players, along with a couple of guys who haven't actually stuck with a NFL team (*). It's likely my UT list is missing a number of players, so I apologize in advance if I missed someone. Same goes for BG, but I think I got most of those guys missing from the previously linked page.

BGSU
Ryan Diepenbrock - Buffalo (FA)
Josh Harris - N.Y Giants
Cole Magner - Baltimore* (FA)
Scott Mruczkowski - San Diego
Janssen Patton - Pittsburgh* (FA)
Robert Redd - Atlanta (NFLE)
Shuan Suisham - Dallas
Keon Newson - St. Louis* (FA)
Ryan Wingrove - Dallas (FA)

UT
Patrick Body - Cincinnati
Carl Ford - Philadelphia
Todd France - Tampa Bay (FA)
Kenny Higgins - San Diego* (FA)
Chris Holmes - Tampa Bay* (FA)
Nick Kaczur - New England
Gabe Lindstrom - Seattle (NFLE)
Lance Moore - New Orleans (NFLE)

UK & Rocketfootball: Good points regarding that website. You are correct that the database does not appear to have been updated in a few years.

It also appears that they only list those who were on an active roster and not those on a team's practice squad.

I would say that in order to be included as having "NFL experience" one must play in a regular season or playoff football game for at least one down. That would mean the player has "made their NFL debut". Practice squads and preseason are good accomplishments but to me a guy listed as being "in the NFL" means he played in a game.
