I actually was talking to a guy at an alumni event tonight ('01 grad, I believe), who's dad lives in Phoenix and is a UT grad, but has taken a liking to BG hockey. So you may not be alone in converting the state of AZ to BG hockey, one drunken desert rat at a time...

Of course you know why Fairbanks and Anchorage are not in the same conference...but it's possible that some newer fans might not know.
The NCAA limits all teams to 34 games per season, but allows up to 2 additional games per season if they are played AT schools in Alaska or Hawaii. Their reasoning is that without this 'incentive' schools from the lower 48 might be reluctant to make that long trip. Since teams can only use this exemption for 2 games each year, it wouldn't make any sence for both Fairbanks and Anchorage to be ib the same conference.

Such as? I remember the first year the Falcons went there. They treated them like royalty and had all kinds of activities for the guys to do. Once they joined the league, it stopped. I think it stinks having to go there, especially when flights get screwed up and then it ends up taking them so much longer to get there, which seems to happen on a regular basis, unfortunately!!.....THAT SAID....

I know that for the first few years the Alaska teams had to pay a portion of the incoming teams travel expenses. I do not know if that is still the case, but it was part of the original agreement to them entering their respective leagues.

if you're going out of town to visit your girlfriend (who i would assume that you don't often see), and your most concerned with an internet chat, perhaps you two should reconsider your relationship.

I think they still do, but the numerous flight stops on the way, along with airport layovers, is a horrible way to have to go to a game!

No, no, I think he has his priorities straight. Let her know early where she stands in relation to BG athletics. A good women will bring him a beer while he's listening to the game and chatting with us.

Never said I was most concerned with an internet chat, nor was your other assumption correct. I see her plenty. We're heading back down to Cincinnati together (she lives here in BG as well) so she can go to her dentist appointment and see her parents. I am much less concerned with the chat than the score. But thanks for the advice, Dr. Phil.

No arguments on the plane/layover bit.
But having part of the travel expenses paid isn't such a bad thing. I'd love to have half of our expenses to Maine paid. Instead, we get to foot the bill for the privilege of playing in one of the worst arenas in all of hockey (excluding Atlantic Hockey, of course) and getting beat down like 7-2 in the process.
