Ignore Button

Post by BleedOrange »

Hey Grant,

Does our message board feature have 'ignore' functionality that you could turn on? There's been a lot of noise on the basketball board, and a lot of response to that noise. It's getting to be a major distraction from the purpose of the board, imho.

Thanks,
Bill

Grant has already weighed in on this ignore button issue on a number of occasions. The take home message was that there is no button on AZZ, but we do come fully equipped with our own internal ignore buttons. We should not need a digitized ignore button to tell us whom to disregard.

Last I heard he was working on the coding for it, but he said it should be done here by 2059.

It's been awhile since I looked, but I think there is a firefox extension that somehow has an ignore feature for phpBB2 forums. I could be wrong, but for those that think they need it it could be worth looking for. I don't know how well it works or anything, I think I just stumbled across it one day.

That works well in theory. However, it is hard to just automatically ignore someone who posts 5 troll messages in the middle of an otherwise constructive thread. I guess you would have to escape from that thread as soon as you saw the offender's name, which means that the troll would have successfully ruined the discussion.

No, it also works well in practice. Sure it's a little tough to completely ignore a poster when people continually respond to or quote the offender, but I think its quite easy to ignore and not respond to his original posts. For myself, it really is quite easy to discount someone whose behavior warrants no respect.

[Georgia accent]Never blew'd-up frogs with firecrackers as a kid, did you? Sure, you could just leave 'em alone, but nothing beats the humor of a frog sittin' there toking on a sparkling stogie until it's great "disappearing act." Only thing left is a leg.

You don't wanna blow all of 'em up because some of them can be quite endearing. But some have a look in their eyes like they want to meet their maker - using the express lane!

Same idea here.[/Georgia accent]
