BGSU Recruiting Class
perhaps I am not reading my own work correctly - I liked BG's class and state that several times
when you review my player position rankings which will be published this weekend; BG has the #1 LB, the #1 K and the #2 DB prospect coming into the MAC this year - that's pretty good 'pub' when compared to the 12 schools
it's good to see so many Falcon fans fired up over your recruits - you should be - but take note that several other schools did quite well too

Nick, I wouldn't take any of this personally. You are doing a great and commendable job in pulling all of this information together, and then analyzing it. There are few among us who have that kind of dedication to the Mid-American Conference. When it comes to college football, though, I think people are always going to be jumpy and nitpicky, if only because every true college football fan only wants to see their favorite program succeed.Vandelay wrote:perhaps I am not reading my own work correctly - I liked BG's class and state that several times

Despite any criticism you may recieve here, I think we can all agree that you are doing a great job! Keep it up!

Well obviously Indiana football isn't as strong as Ohio football, but not many states are. But not only do I think your statement is a little out there...TG1996 wrote:BGSUfalcons wrote:I wanted to add a little criticism of Ball State's class and Indiana high school football...
Ball St. signed six players from the state of Indiana. Indiana high school football isn't very good. I'll take the all-conference team from any D1 conference in the state of Ohio over the best high school players in the entire state of Indiana, regardless of division, any day.
I speak from experience. Take it or leave it, I don't care.
I just went back and checked, and we have EIGHTEEN (18) returning offensive linemen in our program for next year, and most were relative high profile recruits in the past couple of years. It seems to me that this is more than sufficient for 2006, and I would have been worried if we would have brought in 4-5 OL this year like some other schools did. We have PLENTY of "big uglies" for 2006 and 2007!!
p.s. and a "big ugly" coach for them too!

Well said, BO. I've always appreciated Nick's work and coverage of the MAC. I visit his site often and enjoy the info. If only the media outlets would cover the MAC half as well as Nick...Bleeding Orange wrote:Nick, I wouldn't take any of this personally. Thanks for the work, Nick. I may disagree with some of the things you say but appreciate the work you do.

He is very good a balancing things. You should see what he can do with a couple of eggs at the Summer EquinoxSan Diego Falcon wrote:Ellis DOES NOT use a tee on kickoffs - he's that damn good!

He doesn't use a kicking block on field goals and extra points. It's a very big deal because many kickers struggle early when trying to kick off the turf instead of a block.

It's the summer solstice, but the vernal (and autumnal) equinoxes (equinoxen? equinoces?) is when you can balance the egg.Flipper wrote:I think you meant the summer solstice. We have the vernal equinox, summer solstice, autumnal equinox and winter solstice.....I think it has something to do with the planting of marijuana.
Although apparently, that's all a steaming load of crap anyway:

Yes, thank you for picking apart the joke. I can never remember what is what Flipper, only that my marijuana is planted with everyone elses out in Eastern KY. And yes, You can balance an egg anytime of the year and has no celestial corelations.TG1996 wrote:It's the summer solstice, but the vernal (and autumnal) equinoxes (equinoxen? equinoces?) is when you can balance the egg.Flipper wrote:I think you meant the summer solstice. The '06 BG Class...........
I've got a mind to to think we got a very good class. Vandelay has us at outstanding at #7 , that seemed low but when I went over his assesment of Arkon and Miami it sure did seem like they got alot more highly ranked or highly regarded recruits over us and other schools. Akron appeared to have some nice size at DB, with all their guys at least 6'0 or '61. They also got a massive 6'9 340 O-line transfer from Minnesota, that must be huge for them. Their running back Boone is a supposed #36 rb in the nation and another rb thats supposedly Top 100 in the nation by some outlets. Plus they have the #16 ranked receiver in the nation in Harvey and a "Top 100" receiver in the 6'5 Henderson.
Akron also picked up the #7 offensive center in the nation in the 6'6 310 Mark Jackson. It sure looks like Akron cleaned up here. Miami also had a lot guys with BCS offers and wer rated very higly.
Maybe Vandelays' ranking is about right. Our class is still pretty good but maybe not as good as 4 other schools. UT looked like they cleaned up in O-line recruiting , this appears to be something that UT has done for a long time. I have a feeling that UT has definitly outrecruited us at O-line. One thing I noticed right away was the size of these O-lineman that Akron, Miami and UT brought in. Most were all over 310 , and some were allready in the 320-330lb range. Talk about not need to bulk them up any further.
I don't know how Ball St out recruited us, if they truley did. Ball St's been horrid these last few years. Akron I can maybe understand after winning the Mac and all but not Ball St.
I guess we'll still have to wait and see how all the guys pan out after they all actually start playing. Then we'll truely know without a doubt. But realizing that Vandelay does look over the Mac alot better than Scout would or CFN or others I hope do alot better than 7th eventually. I don't think we've been higher than 3rd or 4th by Vandelay. The CFN and Scout ranking does give me hope though.
