Actually, I believe "Bowling Green," "BG," the colors orange and brown, "Falcons," AND the logos are all registered trademarks of the University...

Would it be possible for the tourist department of Bowling Green, KY to sue for the rights to put Bowling Green on a shirt and sell it? I know the big deciding factor in copyright law is whether the mark could be confused between the two companies using it. Copyright law is something I don't know much about, so does anyone have more info?ZiggyZoomba wrote:Actually, I believe "Bowling Green," "BG," the colors orange and brown, "Falcons," AND the logos are all registered trademarks of the University...

City names no but city slogans yes. Being in horse country I know there as been some big issues with the use of "horse capital of the world" around here.BGDrew wrote:Would it be possible for the tourist department of Bowling Green, KY to sue for the rights to put Bowling Green on a shirt and sell it? Football and Hockey Jerseys
As some of you who read the Toledo boards may be aware we have a website featuring Rockets merchandise (www.therocketstore.com). The site has been relatively successful since it's launch in September, 2005. We want to expand to other MAC schools to fill a merchandise gap that we feel exists for many of the MAC schools (especially for out of town fans). Before this particular thread started we had put into motion an initiative to produce a brown jersey like those worn at the UT-BG game. BGAlum87 and I have exchanged several PMs regarding potential expansion. Anyway, not to step on anyone's toes, below is the prototype brown jersey. It is pretty much a dead ringer as I've compared it to photos from the game. It is fully licensed and trademarked, hence BGSU DOES RECEIVE royalties for each and everyone produced and sold. It does not look like the gentleman making the other jerseys in this thread is doing so legally. Our particular vendor also does the traditional orange home and away football jersey, plus hockey jerseys as well (plus I also believe he's done BG basketball jerseys). I've got some graphics of the FB and hockey jerseys that I can post if there is interest. Our UT jerseys have sold very well and are extremely well made. I've washed mine 20-30 times and they still look brand new. If there is sufficient interest we can look into offering custom jerseys where you can order a particular number, name or both. We'd also like some feedback on offering a particular number that would appeal to the masses (i.e., #4 for BG and #7 for UT these past couple of years). Feel free to visit the Rocket Store site to look at the custom jersey option. My business partner and I have secured the domain "www.thefalconstore.com" in anticipation that we will start to reach out to other MAC schools.
