Whatever you're drinking today, I'll take a double...
Here we go into football...I gotta respond...
As for the recruiting class they may have been highly touted but we've gotten very little production out of anybody that Brandon has recruited. A couple of the OL guys look good, and Partridge is a playa. I like what we saw from Briggs at the end of last year and Devon Parks is pretty good. Winovich is an anomaly. Most all of our other big time contributors to those teams were not Brandon recruits...I like those classes on paper, and they may turn out to be good, but so far we've seen very little. That's not a fault, because most of the players Urban left us were pretty damn good.
The two bowl wins are nice, but one of those was nothing more than a fluke because of the limit of bowl eligible teams. The 2003 team was very good, but not quite as good as Miami. They were a good team, but only the Purdue game would qualify as winning a game above their heads. I still think we gave OSU that game due to poor coaching. The Miami games were what they were. The 2004 team met preseason expectations, but that was because we didn't know what we had in Omar preseason. If you would've told us in August 2004 that Omar would have one of the best seasons for a QB in NCAA history, then I think we all would've been very disappointed with the results. We managed to get outcoached in our 2 biggest games of the year and couldn't even make our conference championship game. In 2005 we were clearly the most talented team in the conference. We continued to get outcoached in big situations. Our coach made some of the worst comments I've ever heard publicly. We looked like we had no clue when we lost our star player. A senior laden team had no leadership, intensity, or heart. In each of those years our fundamentals (blocking & tackling) took a step for the worse, not to mention the downfall of STs.
I didn't say I didn't like the results of some of those seasons, I said I don't like the direction of those seasons. What I've watched with our football team (despite some heralded recruiting classes) is a team that gets worse & worse for each year they are removed from he who shall not be named. Last year was a senior laden team and they still did none of the little things it takes to win football games. I expect 2006 to be another step backwards as we lost so much off that squad. Unless I see youngsters playing & showing growth throughout the season I will be quite ready to be rid of our head football coach...I've thought for a while we'd be quite lucky to have somebody take him off our hands, but unless 2006 is way above expectations, I think our window on that one is probably long gone.
If you wish to discuss further I'd be more than willing in the football forum
Now back to bashing the basketball coach!!
