If your throwing mechanics are in seriuous question, without a doubt. You're talking about an opportunity to put the nay-sayers to rest and go out there and throw nice passes in the most perfect of settings and pretty much lock up #3 to the Titans. But not throwing, for me, is Young and his agent coming to the realization that his mechanics are his mechanics, and they're not going to magically change by the Combine, so by not throwing Young basically says "look at the film....you either like what you see, or you don't". There are already rumblings to begin with that Tennessee is wavering on taking D'Brickashaw Ferguson or trading down in hopes to get Jay Cutler, rather than taking Young now, so if that is true, Young better hope the team trading in to #3 wants him, or he could be in for a freefall, unless the Lions grab him.dduncan wrote:Serious question: Do you think it is a bad idea to not throw at the combine, especially if he is projected to be a top 10 pick?
I've started an NFLDraft website
Forgot to answer this too.

But wouldn't you, if you were projected to go in the top 10, say that I want to showcase my throwing skills March 22nd to the receivers and players that I am familiar with, rather than risking it? Once you are in the top 10 of a draft, you don't need to prove anything. If your throwing mechanics are in seriuous question, without a doubt. About his mechanics: Why change them now? More than likely, the team that drafts him will alter the mechanics then, if any.
As far as Tennessee not take VY. It's a possibility. You can't go wrong with either Ferguson or Young. All I know is that Vince has already spent time working with Steve McNair, developing his passing game and probably learning some of the pro-system attributes.

He could unwittingly showcase his poor mechanics instead and leave a sour taste in everyone's mouths. As far as his mechanics, they're natural. They're not going to change. Honestly, I'm not against him throwing or not throwing. If he throws, obviously his mechanics arent going to be pretty, but he would at least show the confidence in himself to go out there regardless. By not throwing, he protects himself in a way by not displaying anything in the heat of the moment to detract from any NFL suitors. He more than likely is a top 10 anyway based on that ugly word that costs people their jobs, "athleticism".dduncan wrote:But wouldn't you, if you were projected to go in the top 10, say that I want to showcase my throwing skills March 22nd to the receivers and players that I am familiar with, rather than risking it? If I'm Young I don't throw at the combine either. I think people are going to be predisposed to find flaws in his game and his throwing mechanics give them that opening. He'd be far better served doing individual work outs for teams who are truly interested in evaluating him and who would be in a position to draft him.
That's probably the exact thinking he and his agent came to, and that's why we're suddenly now hearing about him not throwing. I don't see the Titans taking him either, but that's me. I think they have far more pressing needs than a young QB, and would be better served either locking up an OT spot by taking an elite tackle prospect in Ferguson, or trading down and stockpiling picks. But if they end up taking Young, they deserve whatever they get, which could be Jeff Fisher and Floyd Reese's jobs.Flipper wrote:If I'm Young I don't throw at the combine either. So now I'm a nitpicker because I disagreed with you? You're not gonna last long in that business when you can't take a little criticism for a pick out in left field. Did you think you were just going to get everyone to agree with you?I will use this post to respond to the other nit-picker that says you can use all the points against Young against Omar too, since you basically unwittingly contridicted them in your post.
As far as not throwing, David Carr and Phillip Rivers both had messed up motions and threw, IIRC.
VY goes Top 10 no matter what, if he throws or doesn't throw. He's got too much talent and physical skill at the QB position to not draft him and either let him be or try to change his mechanics.
Did I ask you to agree with me? Did I ask anyone to agree with me? No. You were a nit-picker for basically attacking me for favoring Omar Jacobs over Vince Young. I don't mind if you disagree with me, but just like you seem to not like me criticizing you, don't come out and criticize me. I'm not in business. This is a joint-venture between 3 people leading seperate lives that follow and cover football for fun. We're not in business, and we're not competing with anyone. Like anyone else, we're gonna put a site out there, and if someone likes it, great, if not, there are others out there. Needless to say I didn't expect to get criticized on a BG message board for sharing an opinion I have of Omar Jacobs.Sweets9 wrote:So now I'm a nitpicker because I disagreed with you? It is amazing isn't it. Disagreeing about whether Omar will be highly drafted is both fun and pointless since it is not us that ultimately decide. But I can say this, disagreeing about his potential is putting it lightly. I'm not going to criticize anyone for not being a true fan, because I understand people have different opinions and should be allowed to voice it. But just in my opinion, some of the criticism about Jacobs does seem quite negative considering that this is a BG site.Needless to say I didn't expect to get criticized on a BG message board for sharing an opinion I have of Omar Jacobs.
I see your Swartz is as big as mine!
No you did not ask me, but you put a site up and I gave you my opinion. I did not attack you, I said I agreed with the guy that said he felt you had Omar too high. There's a difference between criticizing and name calling. I fail to see where I attacked you.Im_Full wrote: Did I ask you to agree with me? Did I ask anyone to agree with me? Just because I'm a BG fan doesn't mean I have to think Omar is going to get drafted high. I don't look through orange & brown glasses, I give my honest opinion.
Since you mentioned Ted Ginn Jr. -- I think he's got sick speed and talent, but I don't think he's big, strong or physical enough to be a WR in the league. I think his future is a CB, albeit not a physical one. Similar to Deion Sanders corner. That's not saying he's Deion, but the same mold. Cover guy that doesn't like contact.
I did get you slightly mixed up with the other guy, but regardless, you really took the torch from him and came after with your prior post anyway.Sweets9 wrote:No you did not ask me, but you put a site up and I gave you my opinion. MACMAN
you know what vince young is a hell of an athlete, no one can say he is not. Yet he is going to suffer from vicks. i just dont see him being any better than a Mike Vick. not that vick is a bad QB, but he is different and as such I dont think his skills have ever been taken advantage of enough in his offense, and see young suffering the same.
my point...Omar is a better prospect in that he has far fewer "bad tendencies" to ocer come.
People end up with draft glasses where by they forget to its not so much what round your drafted in (for anything other than money) but what system drafts you and how end up fittng that system.
Teh MAC is the cradle of QBS for a reason...our "systems" seem to be a better training grounds than the "experts" wnat to admit...oh yea these are the same experts who think the BCS is perfect...dont forget.
