BG ND thread
Now tied at 1 with 8 mins to play. Once again, Falcons didn't man up the ND offense. Spratt playing well and saved twice with the third rebound being punched in.
More laziness in transitions.

Extremely dissapointing finish to a season that was going fairly well in December-January. I just don't know what happened after that game against scUM on January 21, we've never been the same since. Giving up 7 to ND Friday night was ugly, and even though it was a much more solid effort tonight, particularly on defense, it still only results in a tie. The sad truth is that we are 0-5-1 in our last 6 CCHA games, and that sucks. I really did not see this happening a month ago, but I guess it speaks volumes about lack of experience. We had a fairly young team this season with the loss of several key players the previous year, and I guess you couldn't ask for much more than what we've done. This is a team that fights hard every night, and the effort is evident. I was looking forward to having a home playoff series though...
The unfortunate thing is, we've played much better against teams from out of conference than teams inside the CCHA. Its too bad we can't transfer OOC wins to conference wins and trade off.
One thing that is becoming very evident though, is the vastly improved play of Jimmy Spratt. This guy struggled mightily early on this season, and tonight he puts together his 3rd solid game in a row, only giving up 1 goal on a defensive lapse.

yes i share the same opinions as you 24, and you hit it right on the nose, i think that jimmy is really starting to get into a rythmn, too bad its at the end of the season...boy when this kid is a junior or senior, he is gonna be scary good for us! the future only looks good right now for the BG ICERS! go get em against Miami, weve played a lot better aginst better teams this year so who knows, Miami wont really have anything to play for anyway already qrapping up the CCHA #1 seed...

I do believe that Spratt is finally showing the ability he was recruited for. He came into camp out of shape but he seems to have responded well to his conditioning. He's much faster than he was at the beginning of the season and seems to be allowing fewer rebounds. There was a reason he was drafted....now we're finally seeing why.Rightupinthere wrote:It ends in a 1-1 tie.
Splatt played tough and overall the defense was improved. Once lapse in trasition away from a win.

There will never be another Jordan Sigalet at this institution. The kid was much more than a goalie.svillefalcon wrote:BGFan wrote:I do believe that Spratt is finally showing the ability he was recruited for. I do believe that Spratt could prove to be just as effective on the ice, though!

Exactly BO. Jordan was more than a hockey player. He brought a lot of good things with him to this program and truly made a difference on and off the ice.

How many goalies in recent years have came in as freshman and been the #1 goalie? How many of those have been the #1 goalie for 4 years? I think he's starting to show flashes of greatness at a good time, just before the playoffs start. Now's as good a time as ever to throw him to the wolves and see just how much he has imroved this year. As long as he stays in shape over the summer, he will be one of the top goalies in the CCHA next year.BGFan wrote: I do believe that Spratt is finally showing the ability he was recruited for. Gary Kruzich played four straight years. He should have played in the NHL but he preferred 12 ounce curls as opposed to actually staying in shape. BG didn't have the conditioning program back then that they do now.pdt1081 wrote:How many goalies in recent years have came in as freshman and been the #1 goalie? Tyler Masters took over the # 1 spot in his Freshman year. Great reflexes but he just didn't cover enough of the net due to his size.
Shawn Timm also took over his Freshman year. If it wasn't for his mom (God rest her soul) he could have been great. There was a distinct difference in how he played when his mom was in the stands and when she wasn't.
I didn't forget about Timm and Masters....BGFan wrote:Gary Kruzich played four straight years. He should have played in the NHL but he preferred 12 ounce curls as opposed to actually staying in shape. BG didn't have the conditioning program back then that they do now.

I didn't figure you did since they didn't actually play four straight years. Tim was replaced by Masters and Masters was replaced by Siggy.
Spratt seems to be a lot like Siggy was his Freshman year talent wise. He came in a bit out of shape and didn't play too well to start out but you could tell by the end of the season that he obviously had potential. If Spratt does what Siggy did between his Freshman and Sophmore years, the next 3 years could be...
