We're bad because....
We lack a consistent scoring threat down low
We lack a PG who can drive, distribute or score
We lack the quickness to attack the basket
We lack the quickness to defend the perimeter
Defensively, our lack of quickness causes us to foul, we also have a tendency to scramble around trying to cover for the perimeter lapse and that leads us to be susceptible to surrending offensive rebounds.
Because we can't pound it inside or sonsistenly attack the basket, we wind up playing keep away for awhile until someone (usually Samarco, Floyd or Wright) decides it's time to shoot a jump shot from the outside.
When those guys are hot and the ball goes in, we've kept it close and won a few. When they're off, we might just as well phone the score in.

And we have a coach who is too stubborn to recognize this weakness and maybe try playing a zone once in a while.Flipper wrote:Defensively, our lack of quickness causes us to foul, we also have a tendency to scramble around trying to cover for the perimeter lapse and that leads us to be susceptible to surrending offensive rebounds.

So what you're saying is we're pretty much bad at everything except possibly jump shooting?Flipper wrote:We're bad because....

Yeah, I'd say that sounds pretty accurate

In my opinion if you let them play without earning it that is not good as well. If Moon and Floyd and the others are so bad than the hurdle to get PT is not too high. Dakich has likely not seen anything from these freshmen to tell him they deserve time over the other guys. A Starting spot and more PT is a carrot that he is dangling for them to work harder and play smarter and so far they have not reached that carrot. Dakich seems like a coach where everything has to be earned. That would not change in this instance.kdog27 wrote:Anything is possible. I mean quite frankly I don't know the first thing about coaching a college team, but it seems silly to be sitting our young players during a lousy season. The only thing I see coming from it is more unhappy faces on the bench.Bleeding Orange wrote: I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with these philosophies, but it seems to me that no one has really asked the question as we have tried to rationalize this season. Might be an interesting perspective, or it might not be. I'm no genius.
I just don't get the impression these guys we have playing now learn from their mistakes. For the most part our players don't get any better throughout the season. Some get worse.

Actually, if anyone saw the Akron game the other day, this is almost what it felt like he did (played the underclassman, got them some minutes). Once we got down big, the game almost felt more like an exhibition to me. It almost seemed like we knew we weren't and couldn't come back, so we played the bench and they got some solid minutes. Just my observation.kdog27 wrote:It is crazy to me that our freshmen are not seeing the floor enough![]()
Why can't we get some of the growing pains out now? I'm so tired of this mentality of freshmen not getting playing time, especially on a team as bad as this one.
