Kent State has beaten BG in 13 of last 17 meetings

Despite holding nearly a 20-game advantage in the all-time series history with Kent State, BG has lost 13 of the last 17 meetings with Kent State. Strange enough, BG has won the last two games in the series which were both been played in Kent. But to add to the somewhat weird trend in the recent portion of the series, Kent State has also won the last four games played at Anderson Arena in the series. That has got to end! To think that an entire class of players played an entire career at Kent State and never lost to BG on the road is frustrating. There’s no doubt Kent State is one, if not the, top team in the MAC this year. But we beat them several weeks ago on their home floor and there’s no reason why we can beat them at home - even though we’ve struggled there all season ourselves. I can’t stomach thinking about losing to another MAC team five consecutive times at home. GO BG!!!

It's kind of weird how BG has won two in a row in Kent and Kent has won four in a row at AA (chalk one up for the MAC). This is a big game for us. I won't go into specifics. That would be the kiss of death. I'll be making my third appearance in a row at "The House That Used To Roar" to follow my Flashes. I don't expect much of a crowd tonight and that sucks. I'd love to see AA at it's best. What a great atmosphere it must be. See ya tonight. 8)

Definitely a big game for you guys. I'm hoping that our guys realize they've been an embarrassment the past couple weeks and put their game faces on tonight. It is too bad about Anderson. If you were at the KSU game in 2002 you would understand what a packed Anderson can be like. It really is a great place to watch a game when it's full. When there are only 1200 people there though it loses a lot.

It’s sad to see Anderson Arena referred to as "The House That Used To Roar" or "The House That Snores" nowadays. Just another example of how things have changed in recent years, and not in a good way.

People enjoy kicking dogs when they are down or beating a dead horse. Let hope we get at least 2000 tonight. Kent could bring a 100-150 folks.

We're on a down slide and it's not gonna be righted. Tonight will be a close one, but we'll lose by 5 or 6 due to foul shots at the end. We beat them at Kent State, that's our miracle for the year. We've come close to beating the top teams in the MAC at home but once again we'll fall short due to some idiotic play. I'm not here to put down our team but we can't play a full game and will continue to lose untill we do.

That game in 2002 at AA was THE best MAC game I have seen, period. Unmatched for intensity, quality of talent on both sides, and a heart-stopping finish.
Classic. Wish I had a tape!

Even watching the game on TV you could feel the intensity. The attendance for that one was 4,735 and I believe that is a sell out.

Kent State built double-digit leads in both halves and then survived a last-second flurry to post a 70-67 victory at Bowling Green.

The Golden Flashes (14-5, 7-1 MAC), who won their fifth game in a row, led by 11 points with 11 minutes remaining. But the Falcons’ Keith McLeod capped an 18-9 run with back-to-back buckets that cut KSU’s lead to 69-67 with 1:46 to play, the closest Bowling Green (14-4, 4-3 MAC) had been since the game’s first five minutes.

Two possessions later, Kent State’s Trevor Huffman grabbed an errant BGSU shot and was fouled with 23 seconds to go. He missed the front end of the one-and-one but grabbed the loose ball at midcourt on the rebound and was fouled again with 20 seconds left. An 81 percent career shooter, Huffman missed the first but made the second free-throw attempt in the double-bonus to give the Flashes a 70-67 advantage.

Following a BG timeout with 17 seconds left, Kent State’s defense flustered the Falcons into a pair of forced shots before time expired.

In the first half, the Flashes built a 16-point lead (28-12) in the first 10 minutes behind nine points by Huffman. Bowling Green sliced it to four (39-35) with 1:22 left before Kent State senior Eric Thomas hit a three-pointer and classmate Andrew Mitchell canned a shot at the buzzer for a 44-35 KSU lead at the half.

Mitchell finished with a team-high 18 points. He made back-to-back three-pointers around the six-minute mark that put KSU up 67-58 after the Falcons had cut the lead to five.

Freshman center Nate Gerwig had a career-tying 12 points and career-high 11 rebounds for Kent State. He was 3-of-4 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line in only 20 minutes due to foul trouble. Thomas added 11 points and seven rebounds off the Golden Flashes’ bench.

McLeod, the MAC’s leading scorer at 23.8 points per game, had just 19 on 7-of-18 shooting. He was 0-for-6 from three-point land after averaging 2.75 per game entering the contest. Len Matela scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half and added a game-high 12 rebounds for the Falcons.

Notes: Kent State was 20-of-30 from the free-throw line, compared to 13-of-18 for BGSU ... The Golden Flashes shot 58 percent (14-of-24) in the first half but only 27 percent (7-of-26) in the second ... The win was KSU’s fourth straight over Bowling Green and second in a row at Anderson Arena ... With Ohio’s 95-65 loss at Western Michigan, the Flashes moved into sole possession of first place in the MAC.
