Wisner....
Actually, I have seen good games and I have seen absolutely terrible games by each ref. It's a toss up because you never know which side of the ref is going to show up. A consistent, fair, unbiased ref is very hard to come by. It's possible that each of these refs could show up and be one. Very rare though.
Be VERY careful with the whole biased ref argument...you might be able to argue consitancy or decision making, but please don't ever suggest that an official is biased just because of where they happen to live or work.
Sorry, it's a big issue with me when fans constantly question the integrity of officials...They might be bad or inconsistant, but I find it extremely hard to agree with them being biased.

I've watched games where I've had absolutely no interest in the outcome of the game. Unfortunately, it can and does happen from time to time. I've even seen instances where the referree tries hard, too hard at times, to prove that he is unbiased.
what's the joke...the only good ref is at the bottom of the ocean?
As much as I complained about him, I did see Hall call a very good game on Saturday. Don't know about Friday night, didn't show up until about 12 left in the 3rd. I've seen good games from other refs menitioned too.
I propose RoboRef. Designed, built and programed right here in BG so that there is a bias to the Orange and Brown! Not overly so, just enough. And the rest of the CCHA refs? Bottom of the ocean?

I was extremely careful in what I said and I didn't use the word 'biased' once. Nor did I use the word 'Jackass' where it was warranted.
I actually agree with every word you said, which is why I felt the need to get defensive. Typically when fans start claiming that a specific referee is biased I take it with a grain of salt.
I think that referees have good games and bad games. I think they can be inconsistent. I think that fans' allegiances to their own team can cloud their judgement as to whether or not a particular official is calling a good game (and I'm just as susceptible to that kind of thinking as anyone else). I don't think they're biased for/against any particular team, I just think they need a place to learn their trade, much as the players themselves do.
BUT...
None of what I just said applies to Conrad Hache. That man needs to stick to his day job.

Actually, I'm the one who used the "biased" word. I'm sorry for that, I just wish there was a better word to use. I don't think they are exactly biased, but.....
There have been many times when I have seen referrees let players influence their decision as to whether or not to make a call.
Another way to think about it, how many games end with each team having the same number of powerplays? How often to do see only one 5-on-3 in a game? As opposed to one for each team?
Wow, I totally forgot about Rutherford, he was wretched. An interesting fact about Molina.. ever since he went back to Asst. Ref, he still feels the need to call about a penalty every game.
If I had a choice who I'd want to ref a game..? I'd probably say Pio. Of the games I've seen lately the last few years he's seemed to be the most consistant.
I know these guys are out there working their butts off, and they probably aren't biased. I probably shouldn't get on their cases too hard, because as much as I'd like to think I could do better, I know that's not true.
I'd really like to see the Asst. Ref's do their job and call offsides and icing. I'm tired of them calling penalties and hand passes (which are both the head ref's call) and getting them wrong. Hell they miss offsides half the time b/c they are out of position. Example: The goalie interference call against ND this weekend, where Hall looks right at it and shakes his head no. The Asst. Ref paying no attention calls the penalty.

The "back" assistant referree, the one at the end the play is leaving, is responsible for penalties that happen behind the play. The head referree is supposed to be watching the play, not behind it. In the example you mention, the play had not left the zone, therefore, it was not the AR's call to make. I'll have to check the book, but I think the head ref can overrule an AR's penalty call though. But I do agree on that they are out of position most of the time.

Yeah, I think you're right, he can. Hall was just as much at fault for not overruling it i suppose.
