The good, the bad, the ugly for BG/KSU

The Good: We shot the ball better from the field and were about even in rebounds compared to Kent State. Nice games by Marschall, Samarco, Soler and Floyd. We battled again and didn't give up (just wish it would pay off in a win already). No one transferred before the game (ducking!). Hey, it’s good news to me.

The Bad: Turnovers and the difference in total shot attempts. BG had 22 turnovers which were twice as many as Kent State had, and those 22 turnovers by BG led to 24 points for the Golden Flashes. That's more than a point per turnover against us. Kent State also had 17 more shot attempts for the game.

The Ugly: BG will finish with a losing record at home for the first time in 20 years and is now 5-7 at AA, including a 3-5 mark at home in the MAC. Kent State has now defeated BG in 14 of the last 18 games. The Golden Flashes have now won FIVE consecutive games at Anderson Arena. Attendance was only 1,301.

I REALLY like Eric Marshall. I think he has the potential to be a really good player in the MAC. He reminds me of Shane Kline-Ruminski. He really has the moves on the inside. If Shane had the ball down low - he would find a way to move around and make a basket. Eric is good at that, too.

I heard on the radio it was our best shooting night of the year. However, Kent's 11 treys kills us. They rotate the ball to the open man very well.

Everytime our zone would collapse on their man down low, they had tons of open people outside the 3 line. It was sickening to watch...you think a few people would back out to guard them.

Metz I didn't see any zone! Our help defense down low would allow an open wing but DD rarely plays zone. I didn't see one tonight. Hard effort but Kent was as hot as Wright St. The guys look real tight.

I completely agree RWF! I really like Marschall as well. I listened to the game on the Kent network and I must give credit to Bill Needle. Although the man never shuts up and loves to hear himself talk (Even more than Michael Reghi), he was heaping praise on Marschall saying Erik was very impressive for a Freshman and should be an excellent player for BGSU for the next few years.

I kept hoping BGSU would make a run at Kent but every time we got within 5-7 points, Kent pushed the lead back to double digits.

I sincerely hope this team can find a way to win a game or two in the last three....

I didn't see any zone defense either...how about I rephrase that to everyone we had around the key would collapse? That better?

I would like to see some zone defense. A lot of our guys can't seem to guard man-to-man at all.

Being as the coach awarded you the Super Fan Award (or whatever that was last year), can you make that suggestion to him? Maybe he will listen to you, because I certainly agree this team could stand to try a little zone defense once in a while.

I think Dakich believes that if he plays any zone, coach Knight will fly up from Texas and throw a chair at him.

As someone who had ripped this team a lot this season I am taking some positives out of this game. We shot the ball well. It has been a while since our percentages have been better than our opponent. Hopefully this will continue the rest of the season. If we can quit turning the stupid ball over we will be dangerous in the tournament. I don't think we will be able to win the whole thing, but we can spoil a few other teams seasons as well. That is what I took from the game, all positive. That is all...

I know Im bringing up a subject that's been brought up MANY times before, but I just wanted to get this out: The officials were absolutely god awful last night and I was truely embarrassed for them. I just can't believe that year after year they don't improve, and it's almost every single MAC official that just seems horrible. Granted there are a few who are decent or good, but the majority just downright suck and they don't get better. Do they have to go through any kind of training yearly? That off my chest, I feel a lot better now (until the Miami game)

Agreed.

Marschall should've fouled out at least twice last night, maybe 3 times over. There where times when he had both arms over a guys shoulders to prevent him from going up for a rebound.
