We have a scholarship open
Is that big man from Kentucky still available. This could end up being a positive if we could add this guy.

You don't automatically get pt just because you're a damn freshman. Most freshmen ride the pine unless they are spectacular or the coach knows that they are going to contribute. I think we have a freshman getting a good amount of minutes. Maybe if the other freshmen would follow Marschall's lead and bust their ass in practice and asks coach what he is looking for they too could get playing time. PT is not a given right. You earn it.

So, if you have to earn your PT, then why is anyone besides Samarco playing??

Because you earn it during practice and Samarco isn't the only person busting his ass. People may not like Floyd but he gives his body up for the team. Lefeld is a warrior and is giving his body up for the team. I don't really have time to argue with someone that doesn't know jack about basketball and probably never played outside of a rec league. If you even played middle school basketball you would know how you earn pt. It's not just about the player that scores the most points. Have a good day. Carry on the bitch and moan fest...

Yep, you earn playing time by working hard in practice. But there are also guys that can go half speed and still play better then the guy busting his ass. Busting your ass doesn't make you the better player. You still have to put the best players on the floor to win games.
Also, some guys are known as being notoriusly bad practice guys, yet peform the spectacular on gameday. If playing time is based strictly on how you practice, you never give this kind of guy a chance to show his skills.

When talent is a bigger part of the equation than effort, you run into problems like Arizona has had this year with Chris Rodgers. All that earns a team is a bunch of egotistical douches that think they are the most important part of the team because they don't have to work as hard as everyone else, and eventually they just keep demanding more and end up dragging the whole team down.San Diego Falcon wrote:Playing hard is one part of the equation. I'm sorry, but you're wrong. It is simply better for the team in the long run to demand hard work and have a losing season than to put talented, but lazy guys on the floor.

I'm not wrong, I just made a general statement that's true in basketball or anything else in life.I'm sorry, but you're wrong. It is simply better for the team in the long run to demand hard work and have a losing season than to put talented, but lazy guys on the floor.
All the hard work in the world will not offset a deficiency in talent. If it did, we would see a lot more 5'7" 160 lb slow guys who can't jump, shoot, dribble, or play defense playing basketball just because they play hard. We don't see anybody like that because they don't have talent.

6-6 long and a superb athlete. At one point against St. John's Jesuit last Thursday he jumped to block a shot with his right hand, but got it with his left on the way down. He runs the floor exceptionally well and rebounds as he often plays in the post in Scott's controlled offense. He plays centerfield on the face-guard press and is very quick.
The negatives are his body type as he needs to add weight to even play 2 or 3 at BG. Grant is a natural 3 and even plays 4 in Scott's offense and would need to transition to 2 or 3 in college, but paired with a shooter like Samarco, Grant would be more than capable of being the slasher that he excels at in the HS system in which he plays.
He is no questions asked a D-1 athlete. Can he add weight? I would think so, but that is not an area of expertise of mine. Go to Savage tonight, the athleticsim of the Scott team will jump out at you regardless of how much the City League officials do tonight to keep a less talented St. John's team in the game.

Maxey is the kid in a lot of the highlights on 13 ABC if anyone gets a chance to see it. BTW, Scott won in 2OT and is now ranked #5 in the state and 19-1 on the year, with their only loss coming on day 2 of a three day Christmas tournament in NYC. They are the real deal and I can't wait for the showdowns with Solon and Mansfield TY-tygers in the regionals should everyone get there.
