What's the team next year?

Post by YoeyCC »

Who does everyone think is leaving early?

My guess would be Jonathan Matsumoto and Alex Foster will both leave early. They are both great skill players and have good numbers, plus our team is one of the worst in the league. They don't seem like the kind of guys that would want to stay and help our team next year knowing the chance of a CCHA or NCAA title is not at hand. So who's left out of non-seniors and non-leaveearliers:

2006-2007 Falcons

2 Michael Hodgson D Junior
5 Jeremy Bronson D Senior
6 Russ Sinkewich D Sophomore
7 Bryan Dobek F Senior
8 James Unger F Senior
10 Kevin Schmidt D Sophomore
11 Jonathan Matsumoto F Junior (possibility of leaving earlier)
13 Rich Meloche F Senior
15 Jon Ralph D Sophomore
17 Jon Erickson F Junior
18 Justin Liut F Freshman
21 Derek Whitmore F Junior
22 Ben Geelan F Junior
23 Brandon Svendsen F Sophomore (personally my favorite player)
25 Brian Bales F Sophmore
26 Mike Nesdill D Junior
27 Alex Foster F Junior (possibility of leaving early)
29 John Mazzei F Junior
37 Jimmy Spratt G Sophomore

New Players Next Year

Jacob Cepis F
Phil Greer G
Tim Maxwell D (could come in as sophomore, transfer from Maine)
Todd McIlrath F
James Perkin F

If you actually met them, you might change your opinion. If you're basing it on "Why the hell would anyone want to stay here and play?" I'd say you're about as far out in left field as you can get.

Jonathon Sigalet left because he had the chance to continue playing for his brother. It was a unique opportunity and he took it. Had it not presented itself he'd still be here.

BTW, you're missing a player on your incoming list. I'll let you figure out who.

And if you've followed Little Siggy you can tell he's seen a lot of growing pains. Matsu MAY go but I think that's 70/30 at this point. Course if he does then maybe the Anti-Dan's will start the "Fire Pooch" threads.

the $750,000 signing bonus to sigalet did it; you just cant pass up money like that and continue to play on a losing team and risk injury.

cepis needs to put on a ton of muscle he weighs 150 with a 5 lbs shoes

BGFan, I think were were suggesting that he was missing a player...and I'm thinking it's the kid that's ranked HIGHER than Matsumoto..unless there's another I don't know of![/code]

Not knowing any of the team personally, the only player I can see leaving would be Bales. Getting in trouble before the season started, then becoming ineligible after the first half of the season, I can see him thinking college just isn't for him. That's really the only one that would not suprise me.

A big thing that separates college hockey from football and basketball is players do not have to declare themselves eligible for the draft. A player can be drafted and he will not lose any eligibility. There are many players playing college hockey that are already drafted. It is rare for a player to leave BG early. scUM and other "Big" schools lose players early almost every year.

I refuse to speculate on next year, when THIS year is FAR FROM OVER!!!

GO ICERS!!!
SWEEP MIAMI!!!

(and fwiw...Liut will be a sophmore next year, not a freshman)
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I agree! I will, however, make a very ambiguous statement: we are going to be very, very good next year. More to come when the important business of the still live season at hand has come to a close, hopefully amidst the urban decay of Detroit Rock City.

So you're saying that he wouldn't have gotten that had he stayed? Again, left field. A hockey player's stock rarely deteriorates unless he gets hurt so bad that he'll never play again. It happens, but not that often. My belief is that, had he stayed and continued to improve, he would have jumped straight to the NHL upon graduation and that $750,000 would be a drop in the bucket. Don't get me wrong, he'll still get there, but that's not the main reason he left.

I'm 99.9% sure Yoey has met them and I do know he knows some of them personally from going to HS with them.

If by some of them you mean Jeremy Bronson, then yes, he would.
