No more Wright
I’d like to add this to what has already been posted by everyone on here. There are a lot of good points on here, either way you look at it. Seriously. There are a lot of emotions flying around here due to the fact of how the season has gone, and the departure of yet another player. It is probably safe to say that right now, these are some of the darker days that many of us on here have faced or seen with BG hoops. But you know what? The thing I enjoy most about all of this during a time like this is – it shows people care about BG hoops. Whether you like some of the comments being made or not, it’s okay to agree or disagree. But it’s clear we all share one thing in common no matter what angle or take we have on the current status of BG hoops, and that is we all care about this program. You’d almost have to wonder how anyone couldn’t be disturbed or upset as to what has and is transpiring with our program.
So with that all said, whether we have a problem with our coaching, our player personnel, our style of play, our recruiting efforts, or a combination of it all, I think we can all agree on one thing. We have a problem that must be fixed with our program at BG. Do we know what the real problems are or how to fix it? Well, who knows, but we certainly have a lot of ideas and suggestions no matter how much we know or speculate. But no matter how much one knows about our situation, you don’t have to be a genius to know something is very wrong and the one thing we all have in common is we know without a doubt the time has come to right this ship and get the problems fixed, and fixed now. We have been on a cycle of these problems of losing games and losing players for long enough.
But I do want to say again, even though I am very upset with the direction of our program right now, it makes me happy to see the amount of people who do care, whether any of us agree with you or not. Because without people that care about a program like most of us on here, you really have a bigger problem than just losses or player defections without true support. I have my ideas and suggestions to help get this problem fixed just like the rest of you, and I just hope like hell we can get this fixed here at BG once and for all. We’ve been dealing with this crap long enough, and it’s time something changes with this program to get things corrected. We can’t keep waiting to see what happens, we’ve done this for about four years and it clearly is not working out in the current setup. But one thing is clear, there are a lot of people who do care about what is going on and that is good to see on here.

GO BG!!!
Makes you wonder how Pardon, McLeod, Stacy, Matela, Reimold, Almanson, and Klassen lasted 4 years, heh? I think I know why...they wanted to work and do things the right way...these kids that are transfering don't have the work ethic needed to handle a coach like Dakich. All of those players I mentioned above were a blubbering mess on senior day because they loved Dakich. Whose fault is it that these players are leaving again?????
So then why does Dakich waste his time recruiting so many of these kids? Is he that bad at judging someones character?cowboyjoe wrote: I think I know why...they wanted to work and do things the right way...these kids that are transfering don't have the work ethic needed to handle a coach like Dakich.

Flipper, I am glad you brought up the continuity issue. I have heard Dakich preach on numerous occasions about how he has successful teams when he had leadership from seniors who have been in the program four/five years. There is no way to get that leadership when 12 of your last 16 recruits leave the program early. Plain and simple.Flipper wrote: You can't hope to achieve any short term success, much less long term success if you don't have any continuity.

The only thing that this proves is that Dakich no longer knows how to effectively communicate with and coach these kids without destroying their collective spirit. He's behind the times now.cowboyjoe wrote:Makes you wonder how Pardon, McLeod, Stacy, Matela, Reimold, Almanson, and Klassen lasted 4 years, heh? Yes those were all good/great players, but what about 3 out of 4 other guys who never made it? Like someone else said, he has to take some of the responsibility for bringing in kids with no work ethic.cowboyjoe wrote:Makes you wonder how Pardon, McLeod, Stacy, Matela, Reimold, Almanson, and Klassen lasted 4 years, heh? Dakich, for some reason, thinks his job is to "break these players down." In a strange way, losing 12 of the last 16 recruits shows that he is successful. The problem is that he doesn't have a clue about how to build them back up. It's amazing that some of you continue to say it's the athlete's fault or they aren't the "right kids." 75% of them? Anybody here think the players going to other D1 schools are that much different than BG's players and that's why you don't see this happening at other schools? I'm all for discipline and not letting the inmates run the prison, but you can't constantly pound on people to the point where they no longer enjoy what they're doing. (the last time I said this, someone made fun of it by posting a picture of a clown.....a typical Dakich response when unable to come up with any answers....use intimidation, manipulation, or humiliation on the other person to divert the issue) It's pretty evident, by reading all the different excuses players have used, that they just don't want to be at BG. I wish I had the email I sent to Paul Krebs two years ago.......you'd probably call me a prophet. I would write to Dakich, but whoops.....he's about the only person in the athletic department without an email address. His arrogance is going to come back around and slap him pretty hard.

Aren't you the one that thought coach Dakich was playing crazy mind games with Samarco when he sat him out in the second half of the Akron game because of a concussion?
Looks like he has an e-mail address. You must've overlooked that one. Wow he even has a telephone number maybe you should give him a call and voice your concerns, prophet...

Here's the link that shows he does not have an email address:

And if you read this link, you'll know that he also won't answer any phone calls.

I think it's also strange that nobody on the thread mentions the timing of this latest departure from the team. Players in other schools may transfer at the semester break or after the season, but we have players leaving with a few games to go in their senior season or before the season even starts, after they've stepped foot on campus and realized they made a big mistake.

Well...he isn't returning phone calls to Maureen. You could try. And you now have his email addy, so why not give it a shot.
As for the timing of Wright's departure, without all the facts you could just as easily question the character of a SR walking out on his teammates (again) when they're down as you could the coach

It's fairly well known that Steven Wright was not happy with Dan. I don't think he liked Dan, and I don't think he was every happy playing under him. I think he quit the team 3-4 times before yesterday, and now is finally done. What is disturbing is that I've heard stories of him even telling recruits not to come here because they wouldn't want to play for this coach.Flipper wrote:Well...he isn't returning phone calls to Maureen. I'm not one bit surprised that Wright is gone, and wasn't expecting him back next year anyway. What I'm worried about, however, is how many others on this team feel the same way?
Hey Tricky and Drew, I notice that you guys threw out peoples e-mail/contact info for all the complainers to use. have you guys every sent these people a note yourself complimenting on the work they are doing? Do you do this in all aspects of your life? When gas prices go up, do you fire off an e-mail to all offending major oil companies? When you get sick, to you call the Surgeon General and ask why we haven't cured the world of all diseaese?
Just because we are upset and need to vent our frustrations a little doesn't mean we need to contact all authorities and let them know what we think. Better to let a few choice words fly here then send/say something stupid to a coach/administrator.

I believe Coach has one year remaining on his contract. I am a supporter of Coach but am troubled with what has happened over the last couple years. I'd love to see Coach rebound and turn it around....
I'll still support the team and program.....
