Time to recruit some JUCO's
That is what the program needs. Recruit 8 or 9 if you have to.

I will politely disagree. Yes, Samarco is a great scorer. But you can't build a successful program with guys that are only around for two years. It just doesn't work. JUCO players fill holes in your roster and help you get through a season in hopes of the coach recruiting some players that can fill that hole for four years, not two.

Samarco is by far our best player. And when Soler comes to play, he's arguably our second best player. These two JUCOs have had a major impact on this team. I'm also not one who likes to see a lot of JUCOs either, but at the rate we lose our four-year players in their first or second year, JUCOs have become more of an option for us. Hell, WMU rode JUCO Mike Williams all the way to a MAC Tournament Title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. You can make a case either way.

Recruiting all JUCO's is not the answer. But throwing at least one in a year wouldn't hurt at all. The problem with a school like BG is that there aren't that many good JUCO's to recruit within a decent travelling distance. If they were further south, or west, than they could be in on quite a few of those kids. It's the same thing on the womens side. I get calls from a lot of schools throughout the year, and West Virginia came in tonight to look at one of my kids, but they don't have the opportunity to come out and watch on a regular basis. These coaches are busy within their season trying to win games, and doing scouting reports on the other teams. It's a heck of a lot easier to go out and recruit a high school kid, they can evaluate that kid a lot easier. You could make a very competitive team by going out and getting 2-3 quality JUCO kids, but the key is getting the time to actually watch them. Getting Samarco was key for us, and it can be done. But you can't go out and get a hand full of them being from that area.

that is true, back in Cincy UC gets one or two JUCO's a year and they are role players. JUCO's at UC like Jermaine Tate, Pete Mickeal, Immanuel McElroy weren't stars, but pieces to go along with the stars, recruiting 8 or 9 wouldn't be good, even though UC may have to do that next year because of the coaching crap going on down thereHoustonFalcon wrote:Recruiting all JUCO's is not the answer.

the way he has played at UC, one minute he is loved, the next he is hatedHoustonFalcon wrote:Speaking of Cincy, they have a kid that played for our mens team. Jihad Muhammed. He can shoot it from anywhere, but the problem is, he hasn't seen a shot he doesn't like. Great kid though.

Tate was a transfer from OSU. I don't think he ever went to a JUCO.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:that is true, back in Cincy UC gets one or two JUCO's a year and they are role players. UC's 1992 final four team was almost all JUCO's. Van Exel and Herb Jones were both JUCO's and I believe Corie Blount, Terence Gibson were JUCO's as well. Not saying that we would have that kind of success, but it's not unprecedented.
I agree with the sentiments of many that 1 or 2 JUCOs per year is a good idea. However, we need quality players/students to start staying for four years much more.

If you have around 3-4 JUCO guys on your team, that is most ideal. Look at Kent State. That is what they have been doing the past several years. They have also had some nice transfers-in to the program as well.
