We all can only guess what is going to happen to in the offseason. MY gut instinct tells me that AD will either fire him or give him a ultimatum. Now if the prior happens what would you do if you were hired as coach?

As I alluded to in another thread I would go out and go heavy on juco recruiting. Now I'm not aware on who is coming back next year from a scholarship aspect. My recruiting would be heavy on juco's. I would look at something like 75/25 junior college/high school players.

Scheduling, get rid of playing Bluffton college and other Div 3 teams in OH. That will get nothing done. Go HEAVY on your nonconference. Play Kansas, Duke, UCLA, Ohio State, Connecticut plus some cupcakes. Yes the team will get waxed but guess what? Those teams have every single one of their games televised. Exposure can not hurt and plus it will make you better later in the year. The cupcakes can be used to build confidence.

Any other ideas?

very good assesment on the OOC scheddy...more exposure is better even if were getting creamed, it shows kids that we atleast have the balls to go up against these programs like Mich St, scUM, the suckeyes, and DUUUUUUUUUKE.

Good suggestions there. I would go heavy on Juco's in recruiting the first two years, since we have so many holes, but beyond that, I would look to go with mostly all 4-year players. I would concentrate my recruiting efforts on big players, since that is the biggest key to success in a conference like the MAC. If you have the size, more often than not you are going to control what happens on the defensive end. That is, unless the other team shoots the lights out from deep. After big guys, point guard is the next most important position.

Scheduling wise, I would eliminate all games not against division I opposition. I'd try to get some of the big name schools on the schedule, like OSU, scUM, maybe once in a great while a Kentucky or a North Carolina, and then sandwich the rest of the OOC schedule with good mid-major opposition.

Another thought is getting Paluch involved into getting a new facility built for both programs. Lord knows it is way overdue. Now, how is the $ going to be raised for this.

Radical thought but start charging students $ for games. Start being more aggresive towards alumni about fund gathering?

I was thinking that. Going Juco heavy and tapering off.

This is not a popular decision if you ask me but how else are you going to generate the funds? Free admission but ask the student to chip in money for a "stadium project?" Maybe as an incentive have this as part of the 50/50 that we see in sporting events?

I would try and hire coaches from teams that are used to winning. Secondly, I would hang out with coaches from Gonzaga, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Creighton, teams that are in the tournament consistently. Maybe they could share some insight.

I'm divided on this issue. On one hand, you need the money to build the new facilities, and a lot of that money would come from students. On the other hand, I fear that the attendance for football and hockey would plummet as a result of this, thus creating more apathy toward sports among the student body. It's an awful catch-22, make the students pay, but they don't come, don't make them pay, they come.

Students are already paying for all athletic events. It's added in their tuition. So yeah you don't have to pay at the gate because you've already made your donation. This doesn't mean that if you feel like giving more money that you shouldn't.

I'm going to say this one time and one time only: I will never pay for a ticket to a home BGSU event while I pay fees at this University. The $300 (estimate) student fees I have to pay are easily enough to cover a season pass to the sporting events and this is a draw for students to come to the university.

I think I may know the answer, but some of you might be ready to kill me for saying it. Ah what the heck. I cannot tell you how many people I've talked to in this dormitory who have said the same thing about BG athletics. The discussion varies, but the punchline is "BG sports stink." I know many people who are fans of other college teams, most notably OSU and scUM, who simply will not give our Falcons a chance. There seems to be a certain "loser mentality" among the student body of BG, where many students just assume that our teams suck because we don't have the prestige of a big name university or because we don't get much respect nationally.

In fact, I remember taking being with some scUM fans on my floor for the January 21st hockey game against Michigan. They kept wondering how their great team could be losing to a team like BG that is so beneath them. They were talking about THEIR SCHOOL being beneath the opposition when they were being proved wrong!!! Now what does that say?
