Lost 2-1
Hard fought game. The third sounded wild.
BG was one odd bounce goal from OT where we may have made it our game (momentum from the third).
MiAudi has two very good young goalies who are playing out of their minds this year. I doubt you will find a MiAudi fan who ISN'T surprised by how well they've played.
Go git 'em Saturday. GO BG!

I won't tell you that I'm not pleasantly surprised. Eff was 4-2 last year in full games. Not bad, but he had two blowouts against him.
Did I ever expect to see Zatkoff on the ice more than a few games? No way. This is a guy who played behind Spratt in juniors.
I think one of the best contributors to their success is the defense around them. They have some sketchy moments, but all in all, they block a lot of shots, play very good position defense and can get the puck out of the zone quickly as to eliminate multiple scoring opportunities. They forecheck and backcheck very well. The aren't a flashy D, but they do their job with pretty good consistency.
I'm not a real big fan of swapping goalies every other night, but hey whatever works. Will Blasi still do that come tourney time? I don't know.

I thought Miami had good size and strength across the board. They are a beatable team, just like any other team but I'm not sure if we had the horses tonight to do it.
You want to hope that we have those kind of horses in the stable here, but truth be told I think we needed a little more jump and a little more size today to work through those checks.
Yes I do realize size isn't all that matters, but being able to battle through checks does matter.
With a few more shots on Effinger and a little bit more jump, it could have been a Falcon victory.
That being said, I hate Miami... always will. Go Falcons.

Great hockey game tonight...officiating was shaky at best but, im not getting into that...Miami is #3 in the country for a reason folks. they had good size strength and very good defense. I really liked how our guys kept fighting. this game was never out of reach. i felt as if something special was going to happen and we were going to eek it out but the redhawks countered everything we threw at them. Horrell played beautifully again...it just seems to me that when we dont give up very many goals, we dont score very many goals. if the puck bounces a different way on some shots, we win the game. tahst how good this game was. hats off to Miami, they have a very good team but give our guys credit, they played there hearts out. if our guys play like taht in the ccha tourney, we will make some noise.

This was an awesome, hard-hitting game on both sides. Both teams played with such intensity it was unbelieveable. The Redhawks were extremely strong on the defensive end, every time BG was able to get it down deep in the zone, Miami was so disruptive. BG wasn't able to get anything going at even strength, and the one goal we did get was on a 5-on-3 power play, the only real strong PP of the night in terms of setup. I've never seen a team give us so many fits offensively, especially with a man advantage, kudos to that Redhawk defense, they were solid all game long.
You could see the fight in the Falcon players, especially in the 3rd period, they wanted this one so bad, but they were going all out and there was nothing else that could be done. We tried everything in the final 10 minutes, we tried dumping it in, Miami was too fast and beat it out. We tried pushing it over the blue line, the Redhawk defenders were swarming us and not letting anything through. I thought we were going to get one with the 6-on-5 at the end though, but the Miami goalie made several huge saves to clinch it. On the other end of the ice, a great game by Horrell and the BG defense kept us in it despite a 2-1 shot advantage for the Redhawks through two periods. If we can play this well defensively in the CCHA tournament, we will wreak some havoc out there, I am sure of it. Tonight we took the best that the CCHA has to offer to the limit and then some.
If there is any criticism to dole out tonight, it might be to coach Scott Paluch for continuing to go with the dump-it-in strategy late in the game when Miami was beating us to every puck. But since they were so physical in the zone anyway, its hard to say that pushing it across the blue would have created more oppurtunities. Oh well. Big ups to Miami for playing extremely well for 60 minutes.

I am only surprised Miami is ranked this high.Rightupinthere wrote: I doubt you will find a MiAudi fan who ISN'T surprised by how well they've played.
I have said it before. BG and Miami hockey programs are on the rise and its because of the coaches. Paluch and Baisi have played championship level hockey and been tutored as coaches by the best. I think BG is a few years behind Miami and showed sustained moments of brillance this year.
I think Paluch is recruiting out of his mind considering where this program had landed. The Falcons are building a great team with players like Matsu and Unger. Its a bummer that we will lose Falk and Pilkington to graduation. BUT - in a few more years the Redhawks and Falcons will be the best programs in the CCHA and in the country.
That is my hope........
I have been saying for some time now that we need to change things up and dump a couple in on the goalie once in awhile. Never know what might happen....bgsufalcon24 wrote:If there is any criticism to dole out tonight, it might be to coach Scott Paluch for continuing to go with the dump-it-in strategy late in the game when Miami was beating us to every puck. Saying that, I thought last night's game was kinda boring. 4 on 4 and 4 on 3 was fun hockey to watch. The defensive style of Miami just made the 5 on 5 boring. After they got the first goal, they just sat back and waited for BG to come at them. They'd get the turnover and dump it back in. Mix in all the penalty calls and the game just became "unfulfilling" for lack of a better word. It might just be because of the season we've had, or the way the game winning goal was scored, I just don't know.

A win down in Oxford, not only would that be a gigantic upset, that would really get us rolling into postseason. With the effort we had last night, I like our chances against just about anybody. The CCHA is a fairly balanced conference this year anyway.Falconfreak90 wrote:Sounded like another tough loss....has been a frustrating 3 or 4 weeks but the team seems to never quit.
This will all pay off down the road. Hopefully we can get a W at Oxford Sat night.

Freak and I are on the same page when I ask this question:Falconfreak90 wrote:has been a frustrating 3 or 4 weeks but the team seems to never quit.
And that is a sign of what?
A GOOD COACH! And a coach who has players who want to play for him. It's only a matter of time, folks. Only a matter of time before this team a program breaks through.

My thoughts exactly! last night we just had some pucks bounce the wrong way at the end....we were in it at the end against the #3 team in the country. Hopefully we can steal one tomorrow and get rolling come tourney time. Remember theres no class when the CCHA tourney kicks up! Remember the last time taht ours guys were playingw hen there was no class...we DIDNT loose!

This game was the first time I've ever questioned Pooch. We really were too conservative with the plays we were running at the style with which we played. Last night's game didn't really mean a whole lot to either team, and I feel we should have played a lot more aggressively than we did. But I do think the team showed they can hang with top level teams. Hopefully we can show that come tournament time.

ill agree with ya there Drew, we played very conservatively on offense...which shown by only scoring one goal...i think we def needed a lil more aggression out there to beat the RedHawks

The game might not have meant much in terms of the standings, but you could the players wanted this one bad, especially our guys. They were hitting, pushing, even throwing punches after the whistle. It was chippy out there at times, hence one of our guys getting a game misconduct and one of their guys slashing one of ours in the facemask. That Miami guy who did that should've at least gotten 5 minutes, not the crap 2 he got.BGDrew wrote:This game was the first time I've ever questioned Pooch.
