Wow...I'm hoping that since he didn't make a huge push for the OSU job that he won't be going to New Mexico.

Kind of nervous though. This won't be good to say the least if he leaves.

" ...I am not actively looking for new job opportunities,” Krebs said in a statement."

".....For personal and professional reasons, I have agreed to meet with New Mexico to discuss this opportunity.”

....He said with the emphatic incisiveness of a politician.

I thought about saying something about it at the time but didn't. Anyway, AD Krebs and his family were in Santa Fe over the Holidays. I knew that U of New Mexico, located 75 miles Southwest, was looking for a new AD.

Krebs parents were in town also, and I think they live in Texas. I'm sure this is a part of his thinking, probably that part in the Blade article he refers to as "personal" reasons.

Let me tell you what I think U. of New Mexico has to offer.

1-Being located in Albuquerque is nice. The city is around 500,000 population and is growing. It has a lot of cultural offerings. The semi-desert climate is very good--dry, sunny, and warm, not hot though like Phoenix. It lies at the Southern end of the Rocky Mountains and has an elevation of 5,000'.

2-Sports at the UNM is the number one game in town. Media coverage-- newspaper, radio, and TV-- is unbelievable. Facilities are excellent. The football stadium has undergone recent renovation with a capacity of around 40,000 and attendance is strong. The football team has been improving and is competitive in the Mountain West Conference.

Their basketball tradition is very strong. They play in The Pit (ranked I think by Sports Illustrated as one of the top 10 sports venues in America) and they fill its 16,000-17,000 capacity for nearly every game. The women's basketball team has been nationally ranked the last couple of years and averages 10,000-11,000 fans a game. Their golf and soccer teams are routinely nationally ranked.

3-I can see how someone could view this position as a good place to finish out a career.

Now, how does it compare to BG? Well, if Krebs is a finalist he has to be very interested.

I believe that BG, especially if we continue to improve, will always have more potential for an outstanding football program than New Mexico, and I think this for a variety of reasons.

Right now, basketball at New Mexico may not have a big edge over BG in terms of talent and where they will finish in their conference. But there is a big edge for UNM in facilities, attendance, media coverage, fan support, and just about everything else.

I don't think Krebs would have a lot of pressure at UNM. Fan support seems strong and not severely demanding. Their retiring AD has been at UNM for a long time. His personality is gruff and the football and basketball teams haven't been hugely successful during his tenure. UNM football, for example, has never won a bowl game and I don't know if they've ever been nationally ranked.

Anyway, I hope we don't lose Krebs to New Mexico. There is a lot on the table at BG right now and he could sure help us get those things accomplished.

IF Paul Krebs leaves BGSU it will be under much different and much more understandable circumstances. He has been nothing but upfront with us through the last two interviews. To compare him to Urban Meyer is ridiculous. It's not like he just told us he has unfinished business here and he is not going anywhere. It is no secret that he is a great AD and other oppurtunities exist for him.

The more I think about it, the more influence Urban seems to have had on this.

I think that Paul certainly learned something from Meyer's departure -- and that's exactly why we're reading about this on the BGSU Falcons website. Paul watched what happened to fans when Urban gave no indication that he was out his way out, and wanted to eliminate the backlash.

With all that's going on in the department (both positive and negative), folks would take it personally if Paul left in one fell swoop. It's smart PR whether he stays or leaves.

That said, I expect we'll be announcing a search for a new athletic director.

Yeah I understand what you are saying. Just don't like to see someone I like a great deal compared to someone I consider a first class a**hole. Party on Wayne.

Oh I'm not comparing them, I think Krebs is an outstanding individual. I posted out of my disdain for Mr. Meyer.
