Looking back...
Ten years ago today I had the following article published on collegehoopsinsider.com
If you were around, I hope it stirs some memories... if not, it's part of BGSU Basketball History. In a bit of a down year, it might be fun to look back some...

On that same note... here's a letter to the editor I had published in the Columbus Dispatch and Dayton Daily News.

And since we're on the Antonio/Chris Daniels kick....
Here's a couple of clips I posted in the past. They're big, so if you're on dial-up, you best pass them by.

I remember reading that story before and also remember all of that stuff like it was yesterday. I was in school the exact same time Antonio was (1993-97) and worked closely with the team over those years as both a team manager and with the SID office. It was an amazing experience being around a guy like Antonio during those years, and looking back at it all, the most enjoyable moments were when he wasn’t playing in a game, but when you got to know him as a person and not just for the great player he was. To see a young kid come to BG with lots of talent, go through some ups and downs in the first part of his career, suffer a personal tragedy, then develop into the player and person he did was awesome. I learned a lot about life and basketball over those years in a way I wouldn’t have being outside of that circle. I had a good relationship with not only Antonio, but Jim Larranaga, during those times. I’ve been able to remain in touch with both of those guys over the years, mainly when I worked at Virginia. I still see coach L from time to time, and still chat with Antonio when I make it to some of his games nowadays. Funny enough, he’s coming back to Cleveland again this Friday, and I hope to chat with him again.
GO BG!!!

I was living in Cbus at the time this was published, and amazingly, I distinctly recall reading this letter in the Dispatch, especially the phrase "most emotional experience that I've ever been a part of...". I remember really relating to it and feeling pride in our program when reading it.ZiggyZoomba wrote:On that same note... here's a letter to the editor I had published in the Columbus Dispatch and Dayton Daily News.

I have always regretted not cutting out and saving this letter. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting it here. It's a classic part part of the BG hoops lore.

Unbelievable, that it was 10 years ago!! Wow.... that just doesn't seem possible! Thanks for posting all of this stuff. I really enjoyed it!!ZiggyZoomba wrote:Ten years ago today I had the following article published on collegehoopsinsider.com

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

It would probably be very easy to dig up the copy of the Dispatch that contained this letter in either their archives, or another library. If you don't get the chance, perhaps I can use my "nerd skillz" after I get home in April to track it down.BleedOrange wrote:I was living in Cbus at the time this was published, and amazingly, I distinctly recall reading this letter in the Dispatch, especially the phrase "most emotional experience that I've ever been a part of...". Cool stuff, Grant - thanks for posting it! At times we all need to be reminded of why it is great to be a Falcon.

I have a clip of that shot... I'll have to find out what hard-drive it's on and get it uploaded. It was an amazing moment.

Yeah I have always liked how those guys emphasize it when a guy is from the area. Keep it up Antonio. The Niz wrote:Daniels is getting a lot of play against the Caveliers tonight. The color commentators have said the words "Antonio Daniels from Bowling Green" and four times already and its only the first period:)

Hope you watched the whole thing. 'Tone came in, ran the show, and the Wizards came away with the victory! The Niz wrote:Not that I'm terribly upset about it being a fan of Cleveland sports, but Lebron and Z have taken over the game, the only downside is no mention of Daniels or BG anymore:(
