FWIW, we're now running on phpBB 2.0.19... but it wasn't pretty getting to this point.

Thanks for everyone's patience.

Looks like some smileys may have been lost... I'll have to dig around and see if I can't find them. Probably won't be a real high priority though... so just live with what you've got for now. ;-)

Nope, the avatars are probably coming from the cache on your computer. Hitting F5 will most likely make them disappear. People will have to re-upload them. And as for the smileys.... they're gone... but I'll try to find out where I downloaded them from, or see if they're on an old hard drive here somewhere.

Not 100% sure. There had been a few weird errors the past couple days... the forums portion of the website is based on technology that pulls information (images, text, counters, etc...) from a mySQL database, and the errors were consistent w/ something funky happening in the DB.

So, this morning, I decided to take the forums down and run a DB backup, and then do an integrity check/repair on the mySQL database. That all went fine... so, I took it up a notch. LOL... we'd been running version 2.0.17 and 2.0.19 was available, so I figured while I had the forums down, I'd upgrade the system. I'd done it lots of times in the past and it always came off w/o a hitch.

Well, today, there was a hitch. Everything copied over fine, but when I ran the scripts to update the dabatase schema, it crapped out and threw flags up all over the place. Well, I tried everything all over again and had the same result. I had to go to the dentist, and then had several appointments...

Got home tonight, wiped out the entire directory on the server, uploaded the latest full-version of phpBB, copied over the ay-ziggy-zoomba.com template and imported the database I had backed up prior this morning, ran the update script on the DB to make the schema compatible and stuff started working...with the few minor exceptions noted above.

Probably way more information than you wanted to know... but hey, you asked!

I tried to update to 2.0.19 on some of the forums I run and I was having the same errors. I ended up just reloading them in the previous version and saying screw it. I guess I don't have the patience to fix it like you :D

It's what I do for a living.... I actually kind of get a bit of a buzz from troubleshooting things like that when I'm under-the-gun. :-) Don't know if it's patience, or just being stubborn.

Nice work doc. That backup was probably good thinkin eh? I learned that the hard way last summer.

So we're on the latest and greatest now? Sweet.

We actually had some problems that sound pretty similar with a SQL database that runs our helpdesk software a few months ago. That was pretty nasty though as we had a corrupted backup and then lost our data in an upgrade. Makes for some interesting days in any case. Thanks for the work getting the site back up.
