Well said Salsa. Excellent points. Albuquerque would be great...it's a nice city and the weather is terrific. Whatever Mr. Krebs decides to do, I wish him luck.
I think BG would have a decent number of new applicants if Krebs does leave. Our women's teams are doing outstanding, the football team is almost always one of the premier teams in the MAC, and BG is a great school. Construction is under way for the SEBO Center. I think this all says a lot about Mr. Krebs and would be a great opportunity that many ADs would love to have.

I wish Paul nothing but the best. I have had the pleasurable occasion to get to know the man fairly well, and I have nothing but respect for him. I have always been, and will always be - no matter what - proud to call him one of our own. It is not often that any school produces an alumnus of the caliber of Paul.
That said, I hope his reaction to New Mexico was the same as mine! Prior to my graduation from BGSU, I applied to three places (other than BGSU): UNM, ASU and UofA. I chose the UofA because, of the three, the UofA sucked less. ASU is a joke of a school - both academically and socially. I know that there are many around here that are "fans" of ASU that will get pissed at this, but this is the truth based on my experience. UNM is a decent school, but my God does the adobe architecture get annoying! And I respect the heck out of Salsa (he knows this), but the city of Albuquerque is really, at least in my estimation, not that great of a city. It really is a dissapointment based on the general understanding of what a "Western city" should be (a la Tucson, Phoenix, or Santa Fe). I'm not saying that this should be a factor in Paul's decision, but given my first-hand experience with the school, I thought I would share.
But again, God bless the Krebs family and wherever the good Lord may take them.

I don't see this as a money move. Story indicates salary range isn't that much different.
I see this as a smart move on his part. He can stay at BG and battle daily to get folks to use their crowbars out and chink money out of their wallets or he can go where the groundwork is well along and the support much deeper. If they offer -- he takes the job. The BGSU job is a daily battle folks -- and deep down most of us realize that fact.
Paul has done one helluva job for BGSU. The only reason he would stay is that he wants to fight the long fight to put the program over the top. I won't hold anything against him if he leaves.

Hopefully he'll want to fight that long fight for his alma mater. If not I would not be surprised to see Jim Elsasser step in. I think if he were to get the AD job assuming Krebs leaves that Jim would be here a very long time. He literally bleeds orange and brown.manager wrote:I don't see this as a money move. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know him personally, but I have never heard from U. people or community members in the know that Elsasser has people skills and a personality that fosters relationship building with alumni and boosters even remotely close to what Krebs is able to do.
In fact, many of the stories that I do hear are in the exact opposite line of thinking regarding Jim's aptitude for dealing with the general public.

IMO, Paul Krebs has been the best AD at BGSU in a long time...he certainly knows how to get things done and done the right way.
New Mexico is a solid opportunity....
IF Krebs decides to take the job, I wish him and his family the very best. He's done a hell of a job here and will always be a Falcon...no matter what.
As far as a replacement, I don't know a whole lot about AD's and who might be available. I've never met Jim Elsasser but I know who he is. I don't know anything about him and, being 2+ hours away from BGSU, am not privy to any "inside" info. Others here would know much more.

Why all this discussion of Elsasser or Seeliger? I am always under the impression that there are tons of qualified people who post on this site that should be applying if need be. This may be your chance. Start updating those resumes!

Seeliger would be a candidate as he has fundraising experience. That along with a knack for hiring successful coaches are the top qualifications for a D-I AD position.
There has been a tremendous turnover in MAC AD's over the past couple years and Krebs is now one of the league's senior administrators. OU, Akron, Buffalo and EMU just hired very young replacements while CMU and Ball State went with more experience.
Krebs is the only AD with a proven track record managing successful, big-time football which would seem to give him the clear edge over the other finalists if he is seriously considering the job.

What coaches has Seeliger (sp?) hired for BGSU? That is not a sarcastic question either. I know he has a major role in fundraising activities for the department and that is an important qualification. I would like to see Jana Blais considered for the position. She is a pleasure to work with and I believe will follow the precidents Paul has set for the department. I would like to think we will also look outside as well. However there is something to be said about our lack of being able to raise money quickly. Here is something interesting from the new mexico athletic site: http://golobos.collegesports.com/genrel/012806aaa.html
It is tough to compete with a state that actually cares about their higher educational institutions. We all know Ohio doesn't.
