I heard this:
I heard this:
I heard tonight from someone (works for the university) you talked to Dan today and he said S. Wright just flat quit. Out of the clear blue. He gave no reason to the coach other than he said he had enough. DD was ask if he would take Stephen back and his response was not this year. DD, we'll talk after the season. If he wants to come back and try out as a walk-on without a schloarship. He'll have to earn a spot.
I didn't hear this from DD but this is what I was told. I don't think S. Wright has alot of loose change sitting around to pay his way for more school. I see DD looking at a chance to have another schloarship available. I think we will look back at this as a postive experience for this team. Next year we will say boy I'm glad Clements or Moten got a chance to play more at the end of last season.
Side note: Did any of you know that this years Senior class was Coach Curt Miller's first recruiting class. He started with 4, only one was left for Senior night three of the four are gone! We had a transfer that came into the class later.

I'm sure you trust your source as most of us rely heavily on them for information. Just keep in the back of your mind that a handful of people actually know what happened and Dan can tell people whatever in the hell he wants to protect himself, should the need arise.
I'm still waiting for Thad Matta to give in to Ron Lewis's requests to play point guard. After all, that is why he transferred too.

Scoonie Penn and Ken Johnson both got looks in the NBA as well.
To play Devil's Advocate, would you rather be POY in the MAC on a team that will likely finish 9-21 and last in their division or average "12-13 and be a 'role player'" on a team that goes to the NCAAs?
I take the NCAAs any day of the week.

If Lewis were around, I don't think the 9-21 part of that equation would hold water. Just the close games alone, I think he could have gotten us over the hump, especially with another year of working with some of the guys. Of course, with his ego and baggage, it could be a few games worse.OptionQB wrote:Scoonie Penn and Ken Johnson both got looks in the NBA as well.

I find it very interesting that once a guy leaves our team, he is suddenly talked about as a negative impact on the team, and the addition by subtraction theory. Given the recent direction of our men's basketball program, I'm not sure what to believe.orangeandbrown wrote:Well, when he left many people said it was addition by subtraction, he didn't play defense, wasn't a team player, and the team was better off without him...much as they do with Wright today. Every guy who leaves is additon by subtraction, according to some.

If you were here two years ago when Ron Lewis was on the team people were saying the exact same things about him. No one doubted his athletic ability but a lot of people doubted his attitude, defense and his shooting ability.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I find it very interesting that once a guy leaves our team, he is suddenly talked about as a negative impact on the team, and the addition by subtraction theory. If we get any more addition through subtraction we may just compete for a national title!bgsufalcon24 wrote:I find it very interesting that once a guy leaves our team, he is suddenly talked about as a negative impact on the team, and the addition by subtraction theory. This is an interesting question. Ron could've consistently manufactured points for us, and that might've made a difference in some of our close games. However, how much of that would be offset by his bad defense, mental lapses in the offense, and overall inattentiveness. I do think we'd be a little better off with him than without him this year.TG1996 wrote:If Lewis were around, I don't think the 9-21 part of that equation would hold water. Is the Ron Lewis crap ever going to stop? Quality kid who stayed out of trouble and went to class. He sure doesn't look like a problem at OSU even though he's not starting and not playing the point. He plays hard and from watching OSU, it looks like he's learned to play a little defense. This is a kid who was willing to come off the bench a good part of his senior year in high school. Every time a kid leaves the program (unless your last name is Wilson), they get ripped by people here. I'm not going to knock Lewis, Erick Crawford, DD, or anyone else because because we might as well rip John Reimold, Brandon Pardon, and Nate Miller.TG1996 wrote:If Lewis were around, I don't think the 9-21 part of that equation would hold water. Its simply folks, Lewis left for television exposure and to be home, he is constantly on tv and Espn and more coaches and scouts will see him play. He also is playing in his home town and all his family and friends can see him. At bg you wont see lewis play unless you get BSCN or physically go to a game. Dakich has proven to produce 2 nba players in antonio and keith, but they were coachable players who believed in dakich's ability to make them better. Ron lewiis didnt see it, so let him move on. i wish him the best with the bucks.
Go Falcons
I don't think his departure was as simple as wanting to play in front of his family and considering he was thinking about Norfolk State at one time, I don't think it had anything to do with television exposure either
One way or another, it's safe to say, mental lapses or not, we desperately miss the Ron Lewis', Chris Hobson's and Reggie Harwell's of seasons past.

Reggie Harwell? What the hell are you talking about? The kid never played here...he barely went to class and IIRC, bolted town as soon as it became clear that he wasn't going to become eligible.
So far as Hobson goes...I actually do miss him. At least he could play some defense.
I never did like Lewis a whole bunch...he couldn't guard me, didn't pass the ball too much and he lacked consistency as a scorer. He'd get you 30 one game and 7 the next.
That dunk off a rebound he had against OU a couple of years ago was pretty sweet though...
