Why do people continue to tie Daniels to the Dakich era?edr4225 wrote:Dakich has proven to produce 2 nba players in antonio and keith, but they were coachable players who believed in dakich's ability to make them better.

Just WHAT has materilized for us lately??????
O.K. - I'll admit it - I'm bummed out after YET another loss!!!!! So humor me while I vent.
Ever since D.D. came back from West Virginia - our program has steadily gone down hill. Even with Reimold and Josh, we get beat at home on Senior night last year!!!!! None of the players were happy with his return. Maybe Krebs should have talked to them before giving him a 5 year contract.
All these kids leaving the program can't be lazy and not tough enough. Something is wrong. Don't be too mad at Steven Wright for telling kids not to come here ( if he did) because we have players that stuck it out and graduated here that tell kids not to come here.
Bobby Knight is a legend - he can get away with being hard on players - D.D. is only a legend in his own mind - and it's not working for him!!! 12 out of 16 recruits leaving in four years - 9 in the past 3 years. Who in their right mind would take a chance and come here!!!!!!
Why do we have more players injured in practice for our team than any other MAC teams have injured in games?????
Three hour practices this late in the MAC season. These kids are worn out - they have nothing left to give.
I'm probably going to make a lot of people upset with this post - and I'm sorry about that - but I'm a long time Falcon Fan who is frustrated to death with the direction of this program and the Athletic Dept. turning their head and ignoring this mess.

A lot of other fans have expressed the same basic points. You're not alone by a long stretch. If you troll throw numerous recent threads, you'll find about 3-4 hours of good reading on this stuff.Red Wing Fan wrote:O.K. - I'll admit it - I'm bummed out after YET another loss!!!!! Unfortunately, these types of issues overwhelm anything else that's currently going on in our program. I'm not sure if there is very much worth talking about regarding BG hoops these days.

You are beating a dead horse bye continuing to talk about beating a dead horse. We have heard enough people talk about beating dead horses whenever someone talks about the problems with the program. So please stop talking about beating dead horses. You are just beating a dead horse.BGDrew wrote:Blah, blah, blah. Can you guys rehash this anymore or does the horse need flogged a little more?

Commonsense I think we've heard enough coach Dakich and Bob Knight comparisons. Do any of you actually think Dakich gets the orange sweater out and says to himself, "today I'm going to do my best coach Knight impression."
You know Iowa fans aren't saying that crap about Alford and Duke fans aren't saying that about coach K. Don't say that either one of those coaches are more laid-back are have easier practices than Dakich.
All three were coached under the same system and all three coach and act exactly the same way and none of them will change their coaching style...

BUT - they aren't having 3/4ths of their team leaving in four years. They must be doing somethings a little differently.Tricky_Falcon wrote:Commonsense I think we've heard enough coach Dakich and Bob Knight comparisons. I just read the other day that Coach K doesn't let his freshman players have cars on campus. He wants them to have to catch a ride with the upper classmen. He thinks that bonding time, helps them learn to trust each other, the younger players get comfortable to speak up about things and it really helps the team chemistry.

Both have their fair share of problems and transfers. The difference is that they both coach at basketball institutions and can get high quality players pretty easily.Red Wing Fan wrote: BUT - they aren't having 3/4ths of their team leaving in four years. Now if Dakich implemented a rule like that he would be seen as a tyrant that just wants to show how much control he has over his team. People would spin it as him not letting his players have the god-given right to cruise around in cars as a freshmen.
I don't buy that Tricky. Dakich, assuming he comes back next year, could go 0-28 and there will always be a core group of fans that will continue to blame officials and everyone else for the losses. Of course, Dan doesn't or shouldn't have to accept the blame for every loss, but the point is, with a core group of fans, the man can do no wrong.
With a certain other portion of the base, he can't win, no matter what he does. This group is by all accounts gaining a lot of momentum and arguably they should be.
And then you have most of us, people who try to keep an open mind, but fans that have continually been let down by a lack of communication and trust. I don't have to hear the whole story about why Ron Lewis transferred, but don't try to sell me a bunch of BS about him wanting to play point guard.
Dan creates a lot of his own problems by 1) not being very honest with the common fan 2) putting way too much trust in those that take care of him.
He's gotten through 9 years of having idiotic rules without much flak, so I don't see how "freshman not being able to have cars" would be such a stretch. I'm talking rules such as 1) the need to show up to practice an hour before it starts to be considered "on time" (Raheem Moss) 2) The need to have your haircut like every other "white" kid that goes to middle school with his son Andrew. I would be interested to say the least in how many kids we don't pursue b/c they don't have the right hairstyle. In many cases, braids and cornrows are a much more "clean" look than say Cowboy's mop or Eyink's "white man fro."
Anything that Dan could do to form bonds between his players that don't include a mutiny against the coaching staff would be seen as a positive.

Honestly I do not care if coach Dakich stays or goes. I would like a winning basketball team in place.
I do think that a lot of people are way too hard on Dakich and are too soft on the players. In football people complain that Brandon is too nice and buddy buddy with the players and they want an authority figure like Urban back. Do you think if he tells his players to show up an hour early people are going to question that?
I don't buy that people wouldn't create a fuss about him not letting players have cars their freshman year. People already complain like you for example about the length of hair and facial hair.
I'll stick to my example of Iowa and Duke look at the rosters and tell me how many players have beards, cornrows and hair to their shoulders.
Raheem Moss could care less about the team he was more worried about himself. I don't see that as a huge loss. Coach tells you to show up to practice early show up to practice early. If you don't want to follow rules then adios.
Maybe you could give some suggestions to coach about ways to build up team morale.

Just using creative language that just so happened to get your attention, Flipper, that's all, obviously it worked. I do think this is somewhat close to the mindset at times however.
I am not here to discuss whether Raheem Moss is a good teammate. I would point to his success he had in HS as a team and the limited individual success he has had at CSU as evidence that the talent is there. I cannot speak to how good or not of a teammate he is. I leave the vast generalizations perpetuated by a coaching staff trying to protect themsevles up to you.
Has Dan recruited "bad" kids? Absolutely. Is everyone who leaves a "head case?" Absolutely not.
I think retaining kids should be the number one priority in the program. Not only for stability, but perhaps, just maybe that stability would enable us to take longer than say a few weeks to do research at the end of the summer looking for whatever marginal D-1 talent is left to fulfill our scholarships.
As for the facial hair and hairdo comment, I'm all in favor of freedom of expression as I believe it has very little bearing on one's ability to play basketball. Alford, admittedly so has has very few instances of follicle creativity on his team, but the majority of his teams are Iowa farmboys too. He did have Pierre Pierce, Ricky Davis and others that stretched the imaginations of the Hawkeye faithful though.
As for Coach K, Nate James, Dahntay Jones and a few others have ventured away from the barber's shop chair in Durham from time to time as well.
