no Boise State this season?

Post by 1boisebro »

looks like our game got pushed back to 2007. that's too bad; i know folks here were already looking into the trip to BG next season, but i guess it'll have to wait a year.

the story:
Boise State Announces Change to 2006 Football Schedule and Additional Agreement for Future Seasons.

by: Lori Hays (2/28/2006)

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State Director of Athletics Gene Bleymaier today (Feb. 28 ) announced a change to the 2006 Bronco Football Schedule and an agreement with the University of Utah for three other seasons to complete a four-year home-and-home series. The University of Utah will replace Bowling Green State immediately on the 2006 schedule, meaning that on Sept. 30 the Broncos will play at Utah in Salt Lake City and not at Bowling Green State.

After a four year hiatus, the next three Boise State - Utah contests will follow, beginning with a 2011 game on Sept. 24 in Boise. In 2012, the Broncos will play the Utes in Salt Lake City on Sept. 22. The final year of the current agreement is 2013, when Boise State will host Utah on Sept. 21.

The Broncos and Bowling Green State will still play in Bowling Green, Ohio, in 2007 and in Boise in 2008.

well, that was news to me.
our website is running a story on the same issue.

bummer. although they do make a point of saying that "a new Division IA non-conference opponent for BGSU will be announced when the MAC finalizes the league schedule."

Thanks for the heads-up. You guys will probably wish you had played us this year. :)

So scheduling gurus -- who takes their place? I wouldn't mind seeing a softer home game. Not necessarily a 1-AA, but a weaker team than Boise. This late in the game, I don't think there's anything else we could really get. Wisky and OSU is enough OOC challenge for me thank you.

Not diggin' this:
The Broncos and Bowling Green State will still play in Bowling Green, Ohio, in 2007 and in Boise in 2008.
The implication is that this is a two-for-one deal. Consider how attendance went last season, perhaps that is the wise course financially, but it's still disappointing. Boise State is a good opponent for us. I like the idea of one-for-ones with the WAC.

On the other hand, perhaps our I-A opponent -- and it will be a I-A opponent, according to the BGSU release -- will be intriguing.

Two points.

First, always bet on Temple to fill a slot in a MAC teams schedule.

Second, did our two and two with Boise just turn into a two for one? The last line states BSU and BG will play at BG in 2007 and in Boise in 2008. What about the second trip to BG? #-o

Well, if the MAC approached the WAC about changing the schedule, that might be the price we paid. :-k

I am thinking the same thing. Boise probably had to concede some cash to Utah to make that work so we are conceding some cash (return game) to them. I wonder if the MAC will "reimburse" that to us some how. I doubt it.

I don't think that is true. If I remember correctly, we signed another pact with them for 2009 and 2010 (or something like that). I'm thinking that is the second gae in Boise.

And for the person that made the crack about BSU should be wanting to play us this year - the Anthony Turner era is HERE. You better start believing or get off the train.

it would be too bad if this became a two-for-one; i hate when BCS teams do that to us, so it doesn't seem fair that we'd do that to a fellow non-BCS program. maybe it's a typo or oversight on the PR.

but there does seem to be a LOT of schedule shuffling going on, seemingly thanks in part to the new 12-game schedule. we replace Ohio on Utah's schedule; haven't seen where Ohio's going yet. seems like this might be just the beginning of ADs everywhere moving games around.

You're gonna tell me you don't think we'll be better in 07 than 06? I in no way said I think we won't be any good this year -- I just think we'll be better next year. If you look around, you'll see I've been one of the most vocal AT supporters.

Wow, isn't this an interesting turn of events?

BG needs a home game out of this and I'd be slightly surprised if Temple came to the Doyt two years in a row. Something must be relatively solid if BG made a point of saying another I-A team would be added to the schedule.

I'll wait for Warthog to sift through the scheduling possibilities!

I don't think there is anything obvious. Utah gave up its game with Ohio to play Boise State, so the two teams looking for opponents right now are in the same league.

Whoa...didn't see that coming. I was really looking forward to seeing the Broncos at the Doyt this season.

I wonder who will be scheduled in place of BSU? As long as it's 1-A, I'm cool.
