Not sure if it was ever announced, but yes, it was definitely talked about. Perhaps the deal really is for 2007 and 2008 as it was mentioned in the BSU press release that we will be playing in those years, but this year's game has just been dropped?1boisebro wrote:i recall that, too, but never heard if it was confirmed.I do recall, during the football season, talk that Boise State and Bowling Green were in serious discussions about another home-and-home. I don't recall ever seeing that confirmed, though.
at the time, we had just made a deal with toledo and miami for 1-and-1's, and we were starting to wonder if we should just go ahead and join the MAC.![]()
TCU would be a good replacement; they had very solid year last season, and we barely beat them in the FW Bowl 3 years ago. they've been strong for awhile.

for what it's worth, here's what our AD had to say moments ago on the radio about why the game change was made:
unfortunately, he didn't clarify anything about future BGSU/Boise games, whether it really is a 2-for-1 or what.
so it sounds like Ohio needed to rework their schedule which set the dominos in motion. The MAC office had commitments as a conference that they needed to work out, and they were in a situation where they owed some games to some people that involved getting the University of Ohio out of a game with Utah next fall. They worked on their schedule for quite awhile and finally approached us (Boise State) with the idea of exchanging our away game with Bowling Green with an away game at Utah to help them out. So we took a look at it and worked out a 4-year home and home with Utah.

I really hope all this MAC shuffling will lead to bigger and better things in the future, and not just screwing some of it's teams because OU can't schedule straight.

Wow why do we do whatever the MAC tells to??? First they just switch us from the East to the West, back to the east, then they give a home game on Fall Break last season which we've always said we didn' t want and now this. We seem to accomodate the MAC whenever they want us to and what has the MAC done to help us out? This is bullcrap, especially since it was a game at the Doyt! So now I'll go my first 3 years of school at BG without a major OOC game at BG. I was really looking forward to this game. They better get someone decent for to replace it, not FAU or Temple.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic but I sure was when I said they were coming to the Doyt. We canZuluWarrior wrote:Finally can make up for losing the Michigan game last year. Good to hear they're coming to The Doyt. Perhaps now we can cut all the moaning of losing that game to U of M.

If it's Temple, I'm just gonna plain cry. As much as I think our schedule next year is really tough, I also think it's good for us. We need to be playing top notch competition, especially at home. Playing a weak school, in football tradition and current quality of competition, does nothing to generate local excitement for BG either.

I would say this all but confirms the wednesday night games for the 2006 MAC football season. That may be what caused Ohio's scheduling problem. I am sure they can schedule, they have been doing it for decades. Their schedule may not have fit into the MAC and Rick Chryst's grant cluster @#$% we will see this season. If it works I will admit I was mistaken, but I think it will solidify this conference as "Mid Major" and unworthy or any additional bowl games. I hope there will be some flexibility in moving a Wednesday game to a Tuesday or Thursday to acomodate TV since that is what this seems to be geared towards. I just think this will be like a car crash. You know it's going to be bad, but you can't not watch.....

Damn, I’m not happy seeing Boise State fall off the schedule this season at all. If we do not see a home game against a D-I school to replace this opening as stated in the articles, there’s going to be a lot of unhappy people around here. I sure hope Boise State does come to BG then in 2007 and that we don’t end up getting a one-and-done deal in the end after honoring our road trip and not getting a game at home in return (like when USF stuck it to us a few years ago). This is why I hate being the team lined up on the back end for a home game in a deal like this, even a home-and-home. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
But something’s very fishy with this whole Ohio U. needing help to fill out their schedule. I read that all MAC teams were suppose to have submitted their schedules last week in the MAC, but guess what, Ohio was still trying to dig itself out of a mess. It seems to me that with us altering our game with Boise State, it’s somehow helped OU now but has also put BG back into the mix for needing a game now after our schedule was all set. If you remember, Ohio was supposed to host Virginia Tech this upcoming year in Athens. Ohio was then rumored of trying to move the VT game to another location (either back to Blacksburg or even to a neutral site), only the back out on the deal with VT altogether in order to put together, and I quote, “a more desirable contract for Ohio University.” Then they were lined up with a game at Utah that they also appear to have backed out of as well. But they weren’t done there, they were rumored to be lined up with the game with Boston College (which eventually went to CMU), and now there is talk about a game at Illinois or at West Virginia. So before I can even begin to start to feel bad for Ohio, if they wouldn’t keep backing out of these deals, they would have already had their schedule in place and it wouldn’t have had an impact on BG at all.
Ohio just released a statement today, here’s the link:
