Update on BB Signees
The regular season is winding down for a couple of BG women BB signees. Newark Catholic's Sarah Clapper has her state ranked Green Wave at 17-1 going into a game tonight at fellow state ranked Jonathan Alder,
Sarah is averaging 22.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg and 4.3 apg. She is shooting 56% from the field and 86.1% from the line. As noted in other posts, Sarah has played far less than full games on numerous occasions as her team has met some overmatched opponents. Her stats could be much higher. She is a lock for first team all state in my opinion.
Indy Lutheran's Laura Bugher has led her team a little deeper into the state tourney. The team is 17-3 and has won ten in a row. Laura is averaging a double double at about 17 points and 10 rebounds on a very balanced team. The 6'1" F/C will face a fellow state ranked team in Eminence on their floor in the next round of the state tourney.
Hopefully, these two will be key players for BG in the very near future.
Go Falcons!

Thanks for all the continued updates. I really enjoy reading them. We'll need them to be bigtime players in their second year to replace the massive amount of firepower we'll lose after next year. I've been impressed with this year's freshman class. I think Jazz, Goldsberry, and Mckinney can all be very good players.
Clapper sounds like a star in the making.

Clapper wins battle; loses war.
I am sure Sarah Clapper would trade places with Jonathan Alder's Lauren Prochaska (sp?) stat-wise after last night as long as her team won the non league match up.
Unfortunately for Sarah, Newark Catholic lost 50-49 at Alder. NC falls to 17-2. Alder, which I believe is a larger division school, is also state ranked. Close game throughout with Alder making 15 foul shots in the game to only two for the Green Wave.
In the battle of all state players, Sarah prevailed big time scoring 20 points with one three and one of NC's two fouls shots made to Prochaska's 7 points on one field goal and five foul shots.
On to the tournament for these teams. Go Sarah go.

One future Falcon HS career ends; another continues.
The Lutheran (IN) Saints fell in the Indiana state tourney as they were upset by Lafayette Central Catholic 58-53. Falcon signee Laura Bugher had an excellent game as she concluded her HS career with 18 points and 8 rebounds. The turning point in the game occurred when Laura fouled out in the fourth quarter. The Saints finished 19-4.
Newark Catholic opened Ohio Div IV tourney play with a 76-12 demolition of Wellington. The Green Wave led 63-4 after three quarters. BG signee Sarah Clapper scored 23 points with two threes in one half of play. NC plays Gahanna Christian in the next round. Looming shortly down the road is a date with the state's number one ranked team Africentric (22-0). That will be an incredible test.

NC rolls on/Africentric looms.
Newark Catholic detonated Gahanna Christian 71-15 in round two of the D IV state tourney. Next up is Harvest Prep. NC led 42-5 at the half. BG signee Sarah Clapper scored 25 in a half of play. Interestingly, NC shut out its opponenet in the first and fourth quarters.
Africentric took an opposite track to the same result wiping out Marion Catholic 90-19. Leading only 27-11 at the half, they outscored the Irish 63-8 in the second half!
Both teams should win their next game setting up a showdown between the state's number 1 and number 5 (NC) D IV teams.

Another player I think the coaching staff should take a look at is Hilliard Darby junior Amanda Himes (6'1). She has the post moves can rebound, and she runs the court well. She's only 50 percent from the free throw line but Darby was down by a point with 5 seconds remaining Himes gets fouled hits both free throws and wins the game. Darby which is a DI school advances to a district semi-final...

Newark Catholic defeated Harvest Prep 63-31 in state tourney play last night. Future Falcon Sarah Clapper rode rang in with a 23 point night. Little sister Amy Clapper lit up the applause meter for 22 big ones.
Next is the long anticipated meeting with the state's number one and undefeated D IV team- Africentric. They were 33 point winners last night. Many observers view this meeting of two of the state's top five teams as a "championship" type game- before either team even arrives at the regionals.
As expected, Sarah Clapper was named the Central Disrtict Player of the Year. This is a precursor to the obvious first team all state honor in her near future. Will she be Player of the Year for the whole state in D IV? She will be a strong candidate along with others. The balanced NC team also placed a player on second team all Central District and sister Amy on third team.
Powerhouse Africentric had two Central first teamers, a Central third teamer and an HM. Pretty good first four to go with a coach who was Coach of the Year for the district.
Go Sarah go.

According to the site linked below, BG has two verbals from the junior class. I haven't seen any confirmation of these anywhere else, but that site is well done and I don't recall any BG recruits reported there in the past to turn out being bogus.Tricky_Falcon wrote:Another player I think the coaching staff should take a look at is Hilliard Darby junior Amanda Himes (6'1). Two of the top teams in D IV squared off last night in the district final at Westerville with future Falcon Sarah Clapper's Green Wave of Newark Catholic falling to the state's number one ranked team the Africentric Nubians 48-38.
It was quite a struggle throughout with Africentric up 27-23 at the half and 35-32 after three quarters. The Nubians threw quite a change of pace at NC when they went into a stall with a one point lead and four minutes remaining in the third quarter. NC was content to let the Nubians stand with the ball for over three minutes. When they attacked the basket with 15 seconds, they got a key basket at the buzzer to go up three. Africentric opened the fourth quarter with another two minute stall until the Green Wave came after them. NC could never catch up, had to foul and lost by the 10 point final spread.
Sarah fouled out later in the fourth and finished with a team leading 11 points. A tough ending for this fine player, but the team has much to be proud of and I am sure she will now focus on her move to BG.
