I'd like to chime in here on the JUCO coaches coaching at the NCAA level debate. A GOOD JUCO coach that has a continually successful program CAN make it at the NCAA DI level. As JUCO coaches, we still have to go out and recruit, just like the NCAA coaches, and we get the left overs from what the DI's and some DII's don't want. Or we are gettting nonqualifiers that a DI school wants to place with a successful program, and make sure that they graduate. We still have to gameplan and scout the other teams in our conference. If you are coaching at a top level JUCO conference and win on a consistent basis, you can be successful at the NCAA level, where you have more resources to go out and recruit. Now, I know nothing of Welling, or how good he is. JUCO coaches deal with pretty much everything that NCAA coaches have to deal with, and some get quite a few of their kids into DI schools. So, if they are good enough to coach these kids into DI schools, why wouldn't they be good enough to coach at that level? Now, don't get me wrong, there are a lot of coaches that I WOULDN'T want at the DI level, and they will be nothing more than JUCO, or maybe DIII coaches forever, but the top guys in the country can coach at the DI level, you better believe it. On that note, I also think that Coach Waters would be a great hire for BG, if they let Coach Dakich go.

Is it good for us to piss away 125k or whatever his contract is and spend another 130-135K on Waters?? No. BGSU does not have the money to fire Dakich, therefore i can guaran-damn-tee you that Dakich will be the coach next season. So we can keep bitching and keep the "Fire Dakich" chants going and keep crying or we can support the team through the remainder of the season and then start focusing on next season, which I have a feeling were going to be pretty good. If were not, Dakich's contract is up and you can all wipe your eyes one last time and move on!bgsufalcon24 wrote:We'll have an opening if we know whats good for usSchadenfreude wrote:I'll bet Waters would coach here if we had an opening.

In the past alumni groups have offered up enough money to buy out our coaches' contracts (Blackney & Powers come to mind). Right now I'm not convinced there would be enough money to buy out Dan's deal, because I think his nice guy in the community image has bought him a lot of leeway with a lot of people (as evidenced by this board). However, it is not beyond comprehension that more offseason transfers might make some of that money a little more readily available.CrazyFan wrote:Is it good for us to piss away 125k or whatever his contract is and spend another 130-135K on Waters?? There is also the little thing about next year being his last year on his contract...that makes him a lame duck coach. There have been many coaches throughout history that would rather resign than have a lame duck year...it really hurts their ability to recruit and win over players. I'm not gonna say it's out of the entire realm of possibility that Dan would resign rather than coach a lame duck year similar to the year Stan has had at UT. Of course unless he has other decent options you're not going to see that happen.
Ya know, Dakich said the same thing on the post game last night. But I just don't see it. Samarco can score, no doubt about that. But after him, I really haven't seen much to make me think we will be a .500 team next. Look at some of these guys:CrazyFan wrote:start focusing on next season, which I have a feeling were going to be pretty good.
Lefeld, Floyd, Moon - while they play hard, they are not the most talented. Floyd and Lefeld have been here three years, do you honestly see them getting much better? Moon plays great defense, but is a liability on offense. The defense can basically ignore him and play the rest of the team 5 on 4.
Marschall has shown some potential, but he is often overmatched at the defensive end and forced to foul. He has to bulk up or he will spend more time on the bench in foul trouble than he does on the court.
Moten, Clements, Dusan - Played very little this season. If you can't get playing time on a team that is struggling as bad as we are, doesn't that say something about their skills? I would love to see these guys blossom into great players, but I haven't seen much this year to make me believe that could happen.
Phillips, Guerin, Freeman - all walk-ons. Enough said.
Sullivan - redshirt.
Larsen, Sims, Miller - all will be in their first year with the team. You can't say you expect a team to be great next season based on guys that aren't even playing yet. So I am not counting them in my analysis.
Given all that, I just don't see us winning more then 10-12 games again next season unless at least two of the young guys make a huge leap in their performance. I am not trying to be negative. Of course I want us to have a great team, but in all honesty, I just don't see it happening.

If we replace the postponed Boise State home game with a road game at a BCS school, we'll have plenty to pay that off and then some. We can call it the "Dakich Bowl" (ducking)Is it good for us to piss away 125k or whatever his contract is and spend another 130-135K on Waters?? If there is an opening at BGSU in the near future and Waters is available? I'd love to see him here. He recruits the Detroit area as well as anyone. He was the one that started building Kent State into the power it is.Schadenfreude wrote:I'll bet Waters would coach here if we had an opening.
Should be interesting to see how all this plays out in the near future.

I never get these go to your bank account comments. So just because he is under contract we should tolerate subpar results? Just ride it out. You cannot let things get worse to save money, because before you know you have ended up losing more money due to those poor results.transfer2BGSU wrote:Open up your wallet and head over to Paul Krebs' office.bgsufalcon24 wrote:We'll have an opening if we know whats good for us

Just wondering - since basketball is supposed to be one of the revenue producing sports - do the " bean counters " in the Athletic Department look at the decline in attendance as a reason to buy out a contract? My husband keeps telling me that I'm adding to the problem by renewing my season tickets, but I like my seats. I've noticed that there are a lot of empty seats there, attendance has to be down about 2,000. There are more people at the women's games this year. The crowd there last night was there to see the Pollitz twins.transfer2BGSU wrote:Open up your wallet and head over to Paul Krebs' office.bgsufalcon24 wrote:We'll have an opening if we know whats good for us
I didn't realize he was in the last year of his deal. Even though he resigned I thought he negotiated at least a partial buyout. Of course if it was the last year of the deal, then obviously there would have been no buyout.Schadenfreude wrote: Blackney resigned, and I think he was in the last year of his contract when he did so.
