Another rough season
He could beat the Finish National Team in the gold metal game of the Olympics, the point I'm making is that however cute it is to win big games, he isn't getting to the Joe, he isn't contending for the NCAAs. I don't think it is reasonable to say he absolutely MUST do so right now, or even for several years yet.
My point, again, is that now isn't the time to call for his head. But if he still can't cobble a simple winning season together, we really aren't much further along than with Buddy. If he does that within, or for both of the next few years, people will cool down, things will be OK.
If he doesn't, I think maybe folks have a right to ask what is going on.

Nathan, you're digging a bigger hole...you're right though, no need to be asking for his replacement, but if the trend remains (and I'll give him 2 year), then the talk can START.
All that said, scott and crew are working their buts off each day, bringing the tradition back to the ice arena and the NEXT FEW YEARS WILL BE MUCH BETTER!!!!

Maybe so, I can see that point. In any case, as you, others, and I have said: two years.

indeed winning some games against ranked teams is not as big of a deal in hockey as football and basketball etc. there are only 50 teams or so in DI hockey and about 15 of them are not competive. a win over clarkson or somebody at #18 is nice but does nothing in the overall picture. hockey is about being consistent something this team at the moment is far from.
a start is by winning at home and getting at least a point out of a road series.
when a program is in trouble every weakness is brought up, the off ice stuff drinking etc. though could be handeled better by paulch

Please, tell me how to handle it differently? Matsumoto was picked up for underage drinking, went to court, got his punishment and was suspended from the team the whole time he was going through the process.dannyk wrote:when a program is in trouble every weakness is brought up, the off ice stuff drinking etc. though could be handeled better by paulch

I agree, while we didnt have the greatest of seasons, we played very well against some very tough comeptition this year...we also took the top team in teh country to the edge...in consecutive nights

I believe you're grabbing at straws here. Paluch has handled the off ice "issues" very, very well. Punishment has been swift and CONSISTENT. Some may say that his punishment was too harsh at times. I'm not one of those people.dannyk wrote: when a program is in trouble every weakness is brought up, the off ice stuff drinking etc. though could be handeled better by paulch

I know what you're saying here, but I also don't think you have been around BG hockey for a long time. BG has always played well against top teams. I think it was 98-99 or so, BG had the worst record in the NCAA, period. They went into Munn Ice Arena to take on the hands down best team in the country, #1 MSU. BG left with a shutout, 1-0 victory. BG had 8 wins that year.svillefalcon wrote: I agree, while we didnt have the greatest of seasons, we played very well against some very tough comeptition this year...we also took the top team in teh country to the edge...in consecutive nights
That's not the only time a "lowly" BG team has pulled an upset, it's just the most memorable for me.
The problem BG has is not playing against the best teams. It's the bottom half of the league that gives us problems. We had as many wins this season against the top half of the league as we did the bottom. This is a big problem, and has been since before Paluch. These games are where leadership and self-motivation need to be the strongest.

I've said it here before, and I'll say it again. It takes TIME to rebuild a program that had slipped as far as our program had. Everybody looks at Michigan as being the premier program in this league because they contend year in and year out, yet they don't realize just how long it took Red to get their program to where it is today. It took him about 6 years to stabilize that program and turn in winning seasons year in and year out and their program was no where near where ours was when he started. You start out recruiting hard and getting one or two good recruits in each class. The program slowly starts turning around and in a few years the team starts turning in winning seasons. If that happens on a regular basis recruiting becomes easier because this is where they want to come. We were there once, we can be there again, but it will take time. No one can deny that the recruiting has gotten much better. I would give Paluch at least 2 - 3 more years with just his recruits before questioning his methods. It will take that long for the bad feelings that have been coming from this year's class to be forgotten.
We were .500 last year in the regular season. One game from a winning season but far better than anything up to that point. We also had VERY strong leadership last year which is the biggest difference between this year and last. The team came together under that leadership and won more games with less talent than we have this year. That's how important it is to have that leadership.
This year is behind us. Next year the unrest that occured within the senior class will be gone. Even if Matsu and/or Foster leave, I believe that next year will be better than this one because the leadership will be better AND UNIFIED.

BGFan put it pretty well as usual. Anyone trying to counter him would certainly have a tough road to hoe, eh?
All I will add to this discussion is this: it is my opinion that in several years Coach Paluch will be an institution in Bowling Green. Before long he may even qualify as a legend.

your dam right on, Give P two more years before you start "talking" esp since many did not start talking early enough about Buddy, lets at least give P = time to rebuild
and as for off ice antics by the team, some of the best years in BGSU hockey went hand in hand with most wild off ice antics from hookers to booze and more. If they are not breaking real LAws, or not getting caught leave them be...adding more "team rules" i hate that we are moving our society toward one where by choices are perpetually being eliminated.
GO GET GOOD AND LICKeRED UP TEAM...by some 89.00 and fly to vegas and spend a few hrs with favorte porn stars and come back and win games if that is what it takes!!!
