38 years and counting.....
38 years and counting.....
.......since our last NCAA Tournament appearance! Not that we even expected to break that trend this year by and stretch of the imagination this season. But the fact of the matter is, the drought continues. But for the 38th consecutive year, we can say "maybe next season”…..again.

I've been very quiet this season... I truly believe in the adage "If you can't say anything nice... don't say anything."
I'm really just glad this season is over...

I dug out my file. Out of 300-something Division I teams, these are the 14 programs whose efforts to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament have been as fuitile or more futile than those of Bowling Green:San Diego Falcon wrote:I see Belmont made it this year. They've only been Division I since 1997.
After Selection Sunday, it will be interesting to see the updated list of teams that have been Division I since 1968 that haven't been to the tournament since then.
Columbia: Division I since 1948. Last appeared in 1968.
American: Division I since 1967.
Tennessee Tech: Division I since 1956. Last appeared in 1963.
Yale: Division I since 1948. Last appeared in 1962.
Maine: Division I since 1962.
New Hampshire: Division I since 1962.
Centenary (La.): Division I since 1960.
Dartmouth: Division I since 1948. Last appeared in 1959.
Harvard: Division I since 1948. Last appeared in 1946
Army: Division I since 1948.
Citadel: Division I since 1948.
Northwestern: Division I since 1948.
St. Francis (N.Y.): Division I since 1948.
William & Mary: Division I since 1948.
W.E.B. DuBois often talked of the "talented tenth." The above list, I suppose, is the untalented twentieth. Keep an eye on those programs. Will any make the tournament this year?

cross belmont of your newcomers that haven't yet danced list.Schadenfreude wrote:I checked up on the untalented twentieth.
Tennesee Tech finished 19-11 this season in the Ohio Valley and might have a hope of an NIT bid. No hope of postseason play for the others.

We can only hope some talented players in the form of the 1968 squad - Walt Piatkowski, the late Albert Dixon, Dick Rudgers and others - show up and stick around to play an entire career. Porky Scholler and Bob Conibear recruited them and Bill Fitch ended up coaching them after the natives got restless and threw Scholler out. Porky found out it's tough to follow a legend (Harold Anderson), like so many other across this mostly impatient country. BG fans today seem to have the patience of Job, given the lack of outcry after this year. Or, maybe most of them just don't care anymore.
