I've been pretty hard on Dan these past few weeks, but you have to respect and admire what he did for Wilson.

Very nice article and very timely, methinks. This is what it's about.

Hopefully DD can do something about the lad's use of double negatives.

Of all the posts about DD, I don't recall many that question the content of his character.

Time will tell what his future is at BG, but obvioiusly for some people, he's much more than just a coach.

Really? I thought Lord Byron was right on. I certainly don't remember many posts, if any, that attacked Dakich's person or integrity. Most thoughts were just that his style is not working in producing a successful basketball program. But off the court, he would be someone you appreciate and love to have as a friend.

I agree with Lord Byron's take, DD's character when it comes to character issues is much the same as his mentor William Montgomery's- sure they both can give hell to refs, silly interview questions and sometimes press row telephones, but they both seem to have a genuine love for the game of basketball and an old timesy, folksy regard for people- when they are accorded the proper respect.

I have never heard of Dakich doing anything in the public eye that would tarnish that. We saw more of Dakich in the community in his first year on the job than we saw Jimmy L. during his entire stint in BG.

Have you guys just totally missed all of the conversations about Dakich's "manipulation of the fans" around here lateley? I certainly don't agree with this at all, and these comments may simply be born from anger, but they have been flying around here lately.

I've met coach on several occasions, and I've always gotten the feeling that he was the kind of person who would go above and beyond for his players. It is very nice to read something like this about him.

It's a good story, and no doubt true. There is no doubting the fact that those that stick with Dan become better people & better players. Dan is a father figure to his players, and in many cases is probably tougher on them than their real father. At the same time, I don't doubt that he loves and cares for all those kids just as much as their real father.

Dan's problems lie with the inability to put a winning basketball team on the court, not putting winning people into the world.

Exactly. He's an outstanding person and leader, and someone I respect greatly.

Bleeding, I think its fair to say that these comments have captured the spirit of most of the people on this board, though not all.

This is just one post about Dan that kind of angered me because coach is a good guy. A lot of people can give you the personal stories. I could even give a few...

"As for it being manipulative, I don't know why, but I get the feeling that the Dan Dakich everybody thinks they know is not nearly like the real Dan Dakich. I have no proof, but I just don't think he's nearly the nice, jolly guy that so many seem to think he is..."

Oh, I totally think it is fair also! I just think that some people haven't fully really realized what they have been saying around here over the past few weeks (and I'm not talking about anyone in particular here). We've all been losing our cool lately. Its like I told my landlord the other day, we need to realize that we're dealing with people and not numbers...

I'm sorry, but that's not how it works. Don't know if you actually work, but numbers matter. A lot. The landlord probably just laughed, I assume. If he doesn't fill the apartments, he loses money and maybe his job. Believe it or not, BG actually wants to generate some revenue from the basketball program.

The only number that matters to me in terms of our b-ball program is 1968. I'm not sure AA is ever going to bring in revenue.
