This one has been mentioned in another thread as well, but I'll post it again. This one is about Kris Wilson and Dan...and it's all about being a Falcon...

I think Maureen did a great job with both articles...

I just posted a thread about the "Flight of the Falcons" story.

It is interesting that the two stories seem to be the complete opposite ends of the spectrum. The story about the transfers paints Dakich as a tough, unwielding, task master. While the Wilson story shows the completely opposite of a compassionate, peaceful, man. Interesting.

I agree that the 2 articles are opposite views, but I'm not very surprised that both were published.

This isn't Indiana or Ohio St, or should I say majority Big Ten followers. The Toledo Blade has never been a publication that wants to be 100% negative on any local program. The Wilson story is a great story.

I think with the talent returning to the program next season, Dan knows that it may be the last, unless he convinces Kreb's to a contract extension before the season. I imagine Dan and his staff are out recruiting JC players again, as he knows that the team must show a big improvement for him to stay.

Very interesting indeed. Yet it seems for every one player who connects well with Dakich and doesnt mind DD's coaching style, there's seemingly another 5,6,7 other players who don't and and can't stand to be around him. The Kris Wilson story was pretty cool aout DD being a great and nice personal friend but that doesn't cover up the fact that DD is losing important good connections with the average player.

Take John Reimold, his HS coach per JR was ten times more intense than DD, but not all HS coaches are like that and we can't get all of our players from HS's who's coaches coach like DD. Ther's two sides to this, and they can't seem to be reconciled somehow.

Neither story is negative...if you read what Maureen is saying in the article on departures, there's no common reason for the exodus. Everyone seems to have moved on for their own personal reasons. If you accept that explanation, you can't really tie the departures to the coach.

I know the next argument would be "he should have found guys whio would stay" or "He should recruit tougher kids". That may be true, but it's hard to make that stick when you consider the different motivations for the guys leaving....how good of a crystal ball is a coach supposed to have?

This was a good media day for Dan....
