Almost a million dollars? I wouldn't pass it up either. And I'm pretty sure that as long as you appear in one NHL game you get the full paycheck.

If it's a two way deal he'll get the NHL amount for games with Toronto and the lower amount in the NHL. This stinks for BGSU in that he'll be missed but in the same thread Scott and Ron get kudos for both recruting him as well as developing him so well. How many times do top rated kids come in and nada?? Surely much credit should go to the stafff, IMO which does give me optimisim that the talent FR coming in may see similar success. Just a thought.

I may be incorrect, but from what I have been told the salary sounds like:
annual salary $ 850,000, if the season is 85 games, and he plays in the NHL he will receive about $ 10,000 per game; not bad eh?
With a 2 way contract, in the AHL he would probably get $ 85,000 / year.

As I have also been told. NHL players( and MLB players ) are taxes based on the city in which they earned their compensation. If Alex plays in Toronto, he will owe Toronto taxes, Ontario taxes and Canadian taxes. If he plays a game in Boston, he will owe taxes to Mass., Boston, and USA. How many cities are there in the NHL or the AHL? Talk about a full employment program for some attorneys and accountants.

If some one out there is better informed, please feel free to correct my information.

Best wishes Alex.

Puckhead, you are correct. I never expected him to max out NHL contract (see my previous posts) - I was way wrong. The next question - given no further roster change (Any news on Bales) how will the top 3 lines shape up? It's a challenge w/6 FR Fwds. I figure Cepis, Perkin, McIlrath and Kantola could all be in top 3 lines. Any takers as to who might have a break through season such as a Geelan or someone else? We will need it. Also, BG is looking at goalie from BCHL - not sure if they'd offer another scholarship with Spratt and eventually Unice.

Also Congrats to Foster for being named to the CCHA Second team. the First BG player since 1999. Matsumoto also recieved votes (10), and just missed earning Honorable mention.

You are correct on the taxes thing. But, according to the article in the newspaper last night, he will receive $62,500 if he plays in the AHL.

That verifies it was a two-way deal. Throw in what has been said as a $170K signing bonus - not too bad for a sophomore in college!

As tempting as the money is, I think Foster is making a big mistake. I personally don't think he is good enough to make it professionally right now.

Puckhead, you're right, and the NBA is the same way. I remember one spring I was working a temp job for the tax dept, basically a mailroom gig, and had a return come through my desk for Lamar Odom for quite a few digits.

At least 10 NHL teams would be willing to say you're wrong...

bgsufalcon24, your comment was that foster is making a big mistake. he just played his butt off for a last place team, that looks like it might be stuck in the cellar for awhile. If you were Foster you would make the same decision 1,000 times out of 1,000

Stuck in the cellar? Oh, how little ye know...

I disagree. I hate seeing players leave early for the pros. But, when you are offered the largest contract allowed by the NHL, I don't see how you can turn it down. Every hockey player, from 4 year olds to AHL players, wants to play in the NHL someday. When you're offered the maximum contract, it's because a team thinks you're good enough to play at that level. Now that he is in their system, he will have access to mentors and trainers that BG could only dream of having. They will work with him to get him to develop faster. Yes, it's a big blow to BG, but at the same time a player must be concerned about his future (Dobek is a prime example).

I thought I'd post this again (it's up to three pages now). Some good comments from Maple Leaf fans. Seems they (the fans) are really looking forward to seeing Foster play with the big club. Reference to Mike Johnson is also made a couple times in the thread.

Previous Link to Foster Comments

Also, for the old timers here. Ken Klee was recently traded from Toronto to New Jersey. Seems he was well liked around there too.

Is that right? Perhaps you'd be good enough to share with us the personal experince you have that allows you to judge who is and who is not good enough to play pro hockey. NHL GM? NHL Assistant GM? NHL Chief Scout? NHL scout? NHL Head Coach? NHL Assistant Coach? NHL Equipment Manager? NHL stick-boy? NHL team photo-copier operator? .......... and ditto for the AHL, ECHL, UHL and all the pro teams in Europe.

If its none of the above then your [/b]personal opinion is irrelevent.
