They axed the dude at KS State

Post by RobbyFalcon »

I read they just canned the coach of Kansas State because they didn't make it to the NCAA tourney http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news;_ylt ... &type=lgns

I'm sure not all of what he said was printed, but the AD never once mentioned anything except making the NCAA tournament. That made me think, "Wow, this guy's a douchebag."

He says it's a bottom line business, but is the bottom line just 'W's? At KS State it is. I'd love to see BG get into the NCAA's, but I'd hate to hear a BG AD say, "It's a bottom line business. He didn't make the NCAA's, he's fired."

It's a different business at the "major" level. I don't know, or really care about, the particulars of the K-State situation, but even the Big 12 can be expected to get 3 or 4 teams minimum in the dance, and if you don't do that at all, you lose your job.

I can see both sides of this. He was given 6 years. However, when has Kansas State ever done anything in basketball (except for when Mitch Richmond was around) that warrants such high expectations?

Given their recent decline in football, perhaps the AD should hope that his boss doesn't hold him to the same standard! :P

Well, now that I'm out here smack in the middle between Manhattan (KState) and Lawrence (KU) I'm starting to notice that there's a lot of competition between the two schools, and K State has to at least be competitive out here which they haven't been doing. People out here have come to expect great basketball teams, and thats something that the K State men haven't been able to do. Even the smaller schools around here have great teams. In Div. II, both Washburn and Emporia St. have amazing women's teams, and their men aren't too shabby either.

Moral of the story, they wanted a change. He had been there for six years I think, and hadn't gotten them anywhere.

Dude had his chance to win there and did not. It is a bottom line business in the Big 12.....how can you fault the AD in that scenario?

6 years is enough time to put the program you want to run in and his obviously failed.

I would bet the Kansas State fans are thankful to hear the message their AD is sending to the fanbase.

I agree, it is different at the "major" level and I think that's part of the reason I like BG sports so much.

This difference is something I keep in mind while reading all the posts regarding the future of DD.

From what I have heard, no one seems to like the AD at K State...and the K State AD doesnt seem to like many people there...I heard a lot were pissed that he forced Snyder out from football.
