MAC Semifinals Thread

Post by BGSU33 »

Kent State is favored by Ohio by 10 and Akron is picked by 4 over Toledo. Honestly, I think these four teams are probably the best four you could have in the semifinals at this point. Kent State and Akron had two of the best regular seasons, Ohio is the defending champion and really playing well, and Toledo has been on fire the last several weeks and is playing as well as anyone in the league. Miami certainly had a nice run, but I just knew OU was going to knock them off. I think whoever wins the OU/KSU game will win it all, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the Bobcats repeat again.

I'll be there tonight. Should be a great night of MAC basketball. The All-Ohio semifinals is nice too (insert BG for Toledo and it would be perfect)

Amazing to think we beat two of these teams, and came close to beating the other two.

I'll be there too, and yes, no doubt it would have been nice to see BG instead of UT. And it is funny that we beat Kent State and Toledo and almost Ohio and Akron. It kind of makes you wonder if we would have won some of those close games that we lost and didn't fold how much of a better season we could have had.

We just got back from The Q, it was a pretty fun night of watching basketball, again. The Kent State vs. Ohio game was decent, there was a very nice turnout and Kent State proved to be the better team by sweeping the Bobcats this season. Even though I hate to say it, the better game of the night was the Toledo vs. Akron game. Akron looked like it was going to roll over Toledo, but the Rockets wouldn’t go away and made a serious run. Down the stretch, the Zips looked uneasy and nervous and it was the Rockets who made the big plays in the clutch. There were a lot of stunned Akron fans, and as a diehard BG fan watching the Falcons suffers lots of tough losses in the MAC Tournament, I sort of felt bad for them because I knew the feeling all too well. Like many, I expected Akron to win, but that’s why you play the games.

You know the MAC is happy to have Kent State in the finals, but you know deep inside they wanted a Kent State vs. Akron match-up. Oh well, they’ll still get a blue and yellow final. I saw more blue and yellow tonight to last me the entire off-season. I can’t believe Toledo is one win away from the NCAA Tournament, but they’ve made a heckuva run the last couple months. And it also continues to amaze me how well a once deadbeat Kent State program continues to play so well year after year no matter who their coach is, what players they lose in, and in the not-so-nice gym they play in. For the last eight years or so, 20-win seasons, MAC Titles and NCAA Tournament or NIT appearance are just the norm there nowadays

Well I saw that the Zips were very vulnerable to a late game collaspe way back on January 22nd when they gave up a 20 some point lead to BG in the second half. Even though Akron won in OT I knew right then and there that they would choke at some point down the line and it would cost them. Kudos to UT for the comeback and I laugh at those cocky punks from Akron who thought they were the MAC's glamour boys. I'll be headed down the Q for the championship game and will be cheering on Kent St. and hope to witness Toledo's tournament dreams get crushed. This Kent team is on a mission. They have talent, leaders, and will. The Golden Flashes will represent the MAC in the NCAA's but it should be a pretty tight game cuz the Rockets are red hot right now. I'm still a lil shocked at their comeback tonight.

I sincerely hope that you, being a "Crazy Fan" will be making it to the women's game prior to the men's final. For any of you that are going to the final tomorrow, you are missing some seriously good hoops if you are discounting these ladies simply because they have the boobies. They are ridiculously good, and it is very rare that any school is graced by a team with the kind of chemistry, depth, and sheer talent that this team possesses.

That being said, I wouldn't discount Toledo tomorrow. I honestly thought that Akron was far and away the best team in the MAC this year, and I still kind of believe that they may be. Toledo very well could pull another upset, as they have been playing some truly inspired basketball down the stretch here. I thought Akron would walk all over them, but they have obviously found some kind of spark late. I would not be at all surprised if they beat Kent tomorrow.

Despite your subpar education, you make a very good point! :P

Perhaps we should try respecting them as athletes. They're somebody's daughter.

Watched the Akron/UT game last night Fox....give credit to the rockettes for a great comeback. They are on a roll right now and I wouldn't be surprised if they beat Kent. This one could go either way.

On to the Q today to see BG repeat at Champs!!

It was a great night at the Q. The place was really energized and the crowd was the best I've seen in the MAC tournament since they moved it to Cleveland 6 years ago (I think the attendance was 11,000). I was definitely cheering for Kent and Akron. Kent dominated OU, which surprised me because OU had played so well the night before. All those arrogant OU fans were speechless...I loved every minute of it. Akron flat out CHOKED in that second game. They were in control of the game and just imploded. They were playing not to lose. UT is was extremely quick. They got down the court so fast. I think Kent wins going away tonight, however, who really knows.
