BGSU Women's Basketball wins it all- thoughts

Post by always a falcon »

I am still so excited from the week at the Q, I can hardly contain myself. I am so proud of these young women for their effort on behalf of BGSU.

1. I am so thrilled that Jill Lause, as a senior bench player, got in and scored in the tournament final game.

2. It was great to see Megan McGuire there. She seemed to be enjoying the play of this edition of the Falcons. She still is tall!!!!!

3. There were athletes there from a number of sports supporting the Women's BB. Great to see.
4. It was great to meet more AZZ-er's and seeing old friends. Meeting a lot of the parents of the players was very interesting.
5. Congrats to Coach Miller and his staff. Awesome job all year.

AND WE WON!!!!!!!!! WE WON!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see where we end up. :smt109 :smt041 :smt026

The Kent State fans walk around with their noses in the air like they are God's gift to MAC basketball so I loved beating the Flashes and sending them home empty handed again. Before the game a couple Kent fans that their team was going to to kick our orange and brown a$$es and then I saw them again after the game and they turn their away so they didn't have to see me in my BG t-shirt. Our team always know what they need to do to win and they execute, they are so much fun to watch and so great to talk to after the games.

That's a great story, that kinda surprises me about Kent fans, they didn't seem to be like that when I went to the womens game at Kent

Perhaps the best thing that comes out of this game is I'll never have to watch Malika Willoughby play again. She's my most disliked player in the MAC. All she does is cry and whine and bitch and she finally got burned today. Her immaturity cost her team a chance to come back and I couldn't be happier that she got what she deserved.

Other than that, Kent and EMU will both take steps back next year, while we will be even more dominant. The future looks very bright. It will take a special circumstance for us to not dominate the MAC again next year.

The next thing to look forward to is Monday night at 7 to see where we're headed. Hopefully it's somewhere within driving range like Chicago.

What a great season. Congrats to all the ladies.

What a great way to cap off what's already been a dream season!!! Back-to-back MAC Tournament Championships and trips to the NCAA Tournament!!! Man I wish some of that success would rub off on anther basketball team on campus. Anyway, I’m anxious to see who and where they will play next.

A side note from today, some Kent State fans who were there today at The Q for both of Kent State men’s and women’s games were congratulating some BG fans sitting around us. One of the KSU fans asked some of the BG fans why Curt Miller isn’t/doesn’t move over and coached the men’s teams at BG. There was a collective pause by the BG faithful (you could almost hear the wheels turning) and people said everything from “I never thought of that” to “That’s a great idea” to “That’s the first thing our new AD should do if we get one” to "No way." It certainly made for some interesting conversations after the question was asked and you could overhear many of the people talking about what a great job Miller is doing and what a poor job Dakich is doing, that it’s like day and night for our two teams in how the women seem to love playing for Miller and how the men seem to dislike playing for Dakich, etc. I almost felt as if I was on AZZ at the time.

Miller would be a sub-par men's coach. Let's not go there.

During the 2nd to last media timeout of today's championship game, I went over and talked with one of my classmates who is in the pep band. (I was seated in one of the boxes behind the band/sideline squad) We discussed where she and the band/cheerleaders would be headed next week, and she and I agree that Chicago and Denver are the two likely candidates. (She very much wants Denver) However, she heard something yesterday about Tulsa being a possibility, and that surprised me as I didn't think that was an NCAA subregional site this year. Can anybody confirm this?

The Kent fans I talked too were all pretty much congratulatory toward us after the game, I didn't notice any snobbyness or bitterness from them at all. I almost got the sense that they didn't mind the early loss as long as they beat slUT later on that night, and they did, so hopefully they'll do our conference well and go to the great 8 again

That's an assumption. How much worse than Dakich could he possibly be anyway?

It is an assumption, but it's one I would be willing to bet my entire bank account on, for reasons I'm not willing to discuss. Just trust me on this one. It will never happen anyway.

Whether he would do better or worse than Dakich has I don't know. I don't think he would have achieved the success Dakich had at one point. The comparison is like saying our women's soccer coach would do a great job with the football team. Men's and women's b-ball are two very different worlds.

So what you are saying is, that Curt Miller's style of coaching and interacting with players is perfect for female players but is incompatible with male players? Is that what you aren't willing to discuss?

Plus, how would the difference between Women's and Men's Basketball be like the difference between soccer and football? Soccer and football are two completely different sports that require different athletic strengths, different conditioning, and mastery of different disciplines. Basketball, whether played by males or females, is still the same game.

Calling Houston Falcon-...you are a girl's coach. What per centage of coaches can make the transition from women to men's coach? Or better yet, the other way around?

Could Pat Summit coach Kentucky's men? Coach K has 3 daughters----=he might be able to pull it off

I think Coach Miller is great right where he is and Lord, I hope he stays!!!!!

I have to agree as well. I've noticed many times she seems to contest every call against her...and bitches quite a bit. I think she watches too much NBA. As a player, you MUST keep your composure when the heat is on...and she clearly didn't do that today. It caught up with her...and she is a Senior.

After I got home and did some stuff around the house, I popped the tape in to relive the great game our women played. Lindsay Shearer was doing quite a bit of complaining as well. She leveled Kate Achter with the body on one of Kate's drives to the hole and couldn't believe the officials whistled her. Watch that on replay...how the hell can that not be a foul?

BG frustrated Kent to no end today and buried them. It was very sweet after reading in Akron Beacon Journal how Shearer was confident Kent could beat BG even though the Falcons had swept the season series.
Not in our house!~ The Q is now "our house". ;-) And "our house" looks mighty fine in ORANGE>
