Radio coverage for BG hockey sucks right now. The only station covering it is the campus station (88.1). The good news is that they actually hired the person(s) calling the game so it isn't a student calling the game. The other good news is that you can pull it in over the internet if you're out of town. The bad news is that it's a pay service....you should be able to find information on www.bgsufalcons.com.

yeah radio does suck here in bg. When i was up at EMU for my first year before i came back to be i used to go to yahoo and find the game(s) that we were playing and the other team would almost always have a radio station that you could listen to for free only problem was that it was the other team. I remember listening to the AL. BG basketball game and the guys at the start were sooo down on Kevin and after he put up like 35 points on them they were like wow this kid can play, too bad that was only one game. Anyway if you can't find the radio online for bg i always looked for the other teams feed before i payed money.

Easy on the campus radio station. They are students learning a craft, that why they are here at BGSU! It's the whole education thing. Our student radio station also broadcasts more games than any other university/college student radio station. As for not having another option you can thank the athletic department for that. The last radio deal involved football (which has earned the coverage) and men's basketball (which has not). That needs to change since hockey will do better this season and women's basketball has made vast improvements.

I wasn't knocking the station per se....however it is very difficult to find student play by play announcers who know hockey well enough to keep up with the play. Hockey is an extremely fast sport and hard to keep up with. Given that it's the only way to listen to a game now, it was very difficult to visualize the play when the students were covering the game before the current announcers were hired.

It's too bad, really, because it denies the students the opportunity to learn how to broadcast a sport that most schools don't carry. However, given that it's the "flagship" station of Falcon Hockey I'm not sure that the athletic department had much choice other than hiring regular announcers.

As for the radio deal....WFOB dropped hockey broadcasts even before the current radio deal was inked. The department tried to include hockey in the current deal but nobody was willing to pick it up. That may change as the program picks up more steam.

BTW, IMO NOBODY HAS EVER COME CLOSE TO BROADCASTING BG HOCKEY AS WELL AS BART DAVIS DID!! I realize a regular job was more important, but I sure do miss hearing him on the radio.

I'll second the Bart Davis props. I remember sitting behind him in the stands at Kent State while he single-handedly called the game and twisted the dials on a little radio thingy.

He knew the game, the players, the coaches, and the refs. Don't know if we'll ever hear anyone as good as Bart again.

Unless Freak busts back into radio.

FF - you weren't supposed to let that out! Oh well...

As far as my attendance, my other "occupation" will get in the way of the first 2 fridays. So, I'll be looking to AZZ for a proper update....

BTW - be prepared to watch a different game...rumor has it that the officials are going to enforce virtually everything...make many teams play hockey again. DON'T TAKE THIS AS A BAD THING!

Once the teams understand what they can and can't get away with (and the referees/asst. referees consistantly enforce things), it'll make for a much better game to watch...yes, early it might mean more PP/PK times, but it'll get better...As for the referees calling/not calling consistantly, this is an NCAA decision...

FCF, sorry if I said anything I wasn't suppose to!! Guess I didn't know!! All I know is that you are a LOYAL Falcon Hockey Fan and that is what is MOST important!!!!

Regarding refereeing....yeah, I will believe it when I see it!! The word CONSISTENT isn't in their vocabulary other than they are CONSISTENTLY INCONSISTENT!!!! It will be interesting to watch though. Hope you are right about the refs...time will tell!!!

.....Is it Friday yet????????

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

MOST DEFINITELY!! His lap around the rink was like 13.06 (or .something else)! The faster NHL players can do it in under 12 to give you a comparison but for a BG hockey player, 13 is amazing if you ask me!

:D Hey, thanks for all the help on the internet radio thing. The BGSU radio internet link now works and I hope to hear a broadcast for Friday's game with Windsor. For those who don't know where to go to find the internet link, here it is: http://www.wbgufm.com/tunein.php
