In Case Anyone is Wondering

Post by Salsa »

The women's hoops coach at New Mexico, Don Flanagan, is solidly entrenched. Before becoming the Lobos head coach, he coached at a high school in Albuquerque. And he has put the Lobos program into the national spotlight.

His record the last few years has been very good. In the last ESPN poll, his team was ranked 19th. The Mountain West Conference has had a good year with BYU, Utah, and New Mexico all nationally ranked in the last poll. And why would Flanagan want to leave? Average attendance at their games is around 10,000-11,000.

Remember, though, that Coach Miller came to BG from another Mountain West program, Colorado St. He was under consideration last year for the Head Coach at that school before removing his name from consideration.

I would be surprised if Coach Miller left this year for another position unless it was one he simply couldn't turn down. The only position open so far at a top program is Texas Tech.

Part of my thinking is Coach's attachment to next year's Senior class. But after next year, who knows. I think what BG has to keep him is the prospect of creating one of the top programs in the country along with having a new Convocation Center.

An interesting issue is what AD Krebs might be able to do before leaving in order to improve Coach Miller's situation.

Now I'm returning to what's really important, awaiting the seeding, location, and opponent of BG's fabulous women's team in the NCAA tournament.

And by the way, I'm going to declare right now that this is BG's and probably the MAC's best team ever.

GO BG!!!

About the seeding. It could be very interesting to see what Krebs wears during BG's first game, as collegerpi.com has a 6/11 matchup between BG and UNM

I know nothing about what UNM women's basketball brings to the table, but I'm thinkin' that would be the definition of irony right there.
