I agree with you. That doesn't change the fact that Brandon and BG has given this kid a chance to get on the team. NCAA wise i don't think coaches and schools should even get the option to get athletes with drug/criminal (Felony type stuff, I think misdameanor violations could slide) records. If you can't get a college loan with a drug conviction then why should someone else get a free ride to play a game.
people make mistakes, i am sure all of you had made more than a few mistakes in your life. You have all been forgiven for mistakes, you have all been given 2nd chances at some point.

Why not give the kid a 2nd chance with limitations. I would be upset if he let him back on the team and gave him his scholly back without making him earn it. BUT that is not what is happening. he is making him earn his second chance. Tressel believes in being a father figure to his players as well as a coach. he doesnt want to hang anyone out to dry. The chances are that this kid is not going to make the team.

so why are we waisitng out finger tips typing about this dumb story?

It wont mean a thing after he is cut and ends up going to UT or Kent or a DII school.

Thanks for pointing out the BG player. I had forgotten about that.

Guess that give nobody on here a right to flame OSU.

also is was a drug charge, he didnt rape, kidnap, beat up or murder anyone.

i know it was trafficking and it is a felony, but it was marijuana not cocaine, methamphetamine, or other more serious drugs. there are much much worse things to do.

I see what you're saying, and I'm glad they're making him earn his way back. Honestly, though, I don't think you can try to make a distinction and imply that it's not a big deal just because it was pot and not cocaine. It's all illegal, it's all drugs, and it's all serious. The fact that it could have been worse doesn't excuse the fact that it's a felony.
That said, I'm pretty upset by the fact that the BG coaching staff allowed this to happen here, too, and I don't see why it's tolerated at all. I'm all about second chances, but drug trafficking is pretty huge (regardless of drug), and I think it should be treated that way.

i know it is serious, but come on, it could have been much worse. He is still a kid, kids screw up, we shouldnt hang him for a mistake. give him a chance to learn from it, to grow up, and earn and fight his way back. he deserves atleast that much, he really does. if he screws up again, then kick him off and ban him from ever trying out again. and I think that is what tressel would do. He will give you a 2nd chance and if you screw that one up you are done. He is a pretty good disciplinarian wether you want to believe it or not.

but yes, atleast tressel is making him earn his way back to the team. I believe when this post was made, the poster had the thoughts/intentions that they let a felon back on the team. That is not the case and thats what you need to realize.

Thats enough about this story now because it is irrelevant. they didnt LET him do anything except earn a 2nd chance (not give him a 2nd chance).

peace

That's not true. Toledo could have appealed the decision like EMU did. In basketball EMU won their appeal. Not sure if their football team won the appeal or not.

Glass houses. How did some of your other sports do?

Since BG football got the "squad size" clause this year, do you think you will get it again next year if you don't improve to 925? After all, the "squad size" clause can still be used yet next year before it goes away for 2008.

The NCAA decides when the squad size appeal is used, not the University.
