I didn't say the act of calling a time out was brilliant, the manner in which Miller got his team to focus on the task at hand was. When was the last time you saw Dan accomplish that kind of in game coaching?

Moon was the first PG off the bench and our defensive stopper at guard. I'd say that he was a fairly important piece of the puzzle.

If his game hasn't shown much improvement, maybe it's a coaching issue?

I have seen Dan call a timeout and get his team focused many times over the course of his career at BG. The bad taste of a 9-21 season will make us all forget things like that real quick. So I still don't see the analogy.

Moon had no presence on a team that won 9 games all year. How important of a part could he have really been? I am sure you could have gone to the BG Rec Center this fall and found at least 2 or 3 guys that could have walked on and made the same contributions Moon did this year!

I agree that the coaching staff has to shoulder some of the blame for Moon's progress as a player...but don't you think some of it has to fall on him as well? Especially when it comes to becoming a better shooter?

My only bitch in the Moon/Dackich affair is why did we recruit this kid? Obviously he is miles away the rest of the leagues point guards as far as talent and natural ability.

When buying out a contract, you don't just look at what the BBall team brings in revenue wise. You look at the whole athletic system's budget and see where it stands. Just like in a regular business, you can move around $$ from different areas. For example, if the football team made the Motor City bowl, there's more cash for the athetic program. Of course, it should probably be used towards the football program, right? Not necessarily.

Who says the entire athletic department has this kind of money lying around? I highly doubt they do. You think our football team is generating that kind of cash? And you look at throwing that kind of cash at a coach, then pay a new coach, and its a while before you see any ROI...probably not in the first year. To get it, you'll have to sacrifice somewhere else.

Maybe we should wait and see how we are replacing Boise State on the schedule. Even though we were promised a home game, there now seems to be some doubt there. If it's a road game in which we receive a $200-$300K payout.....

Rollo...I guess what I'm getting at in my own circuitous way is that Miller has his team and Dakich doesn't. He's lost them and I doubt that he's getting them back.

So far as Moon goes...he did make an impact this year on the defensive end. I don't disagree with the notion that he shouldn't have been recruited in the first place because his defense doesn't make up for his lack of offense.

So far as finding better players at the rec center, excluding football players, unless the calibre of athlete playing there has dramatically increased since my last games ther in 95, I really doubt that.

I played against guys as recent as 2004 there that would eat Moon's lunch.

Sorry to hear about the Rec Center. I graduated in 1983 and we had some very good guys play there on a regular basis. It was very common to see some of the varsity guys there playing pickup with us. You almost had at least a 2 game wait on the main courts all the time.

Living in the Quads my sophmore year, I think I spent more time at the Rec Center than I ever did in class or at the library. Great times!

I graduated in '85 and used to play there a lot....maybe we went up against each other.

Bernard White was a heck of a player. Brian McClure....not so much

I don't know any current men's players so I can't answer that. I can promise you though that not every women's player "adores" Miller as you put it. I would be willing to bet also that there are at least a couple men's players that don't detest Dakich, but that's an assumption on my part. That's why I don't say it's a fact.

kid, there are folks around here that have connections to and friendships with our teams and student athletes about which you have no idea.
a big part of a mature relationship is discretion, something many around here care to practice. i don't fault JH for not wanting to share, and nor would i want to in his position.

You don't need much inside info to know that the players don't like the coach. They don't listen to him, and they don't progress under him. More importantly we have 2-3 kids transfer out every year.

It's pretty darn obvious to anyone paying attention that a fair number of the players brought in here don't like the coaching staff.
