Last win was CMU in 2003. After that, its WMU, OU and KSU out in one. Even one win really helps the conference's rep.

Yeah, I was at this game as well as the three others at the Palace in Auburn Hills. Kent was pretty well overmatched against Pitt and looked the 2nd worst of the teams (S. Illinois was the worst). Pitt was hot from the start and really never cooled off. The big Pitt front line of a 7 footer and 6'10" really overpowered the Flashes. Warcyznski looked decent but DeAndre Haynes never got into the flow. Kent did look faster but the height was too much to overcome.
BTW I found the Bradley fans a little obnoxious. They stand the entire game which I guess shows support, but when you're sharing the stadium with other teams it blocks out a bunch of people that just want to see the game. It didn't bother me particularly since I was in the third row and far enough away, but I saw several Pitt fans complain to security. Also, the Bradley fans complained on just about every single call or noncall.

Would you say the same thing, if I were in front of you at a Major League Ball game that you paid $50 a seat for and I decided to stand up the whole game and only sit down between innings? It's still a sporting event and I am supporting the home team when they are in the field or at bat. Though my example takes it to the extreme, Bradley fans did the equivalent by sitting during timeouts. BTW The fans that couldn't see paid $60 for those seats not for Standing Room Only.BGSUVA wrote:If the Pitt fans have a problem with people standing, then they should stand up. I always thought complaining aobut people standing up during a GAME is rediculous, but knowing the NCAA, they may make it illegal.

This is due in large part to the significant drop off in talent in the MAC. The bottom feeders in the MAC 10 years ago could run with the top teams in the MAC today. I've been watching MAC ball for 13 years now and it's very noticable. The MAC doesn't get the quality players it used to such as Antonio Daniels, Wally Szczerbiak, Gary Trent or Bonzi Wells. I think since the '02 season and the BG and KSU squads, the MAC has been very bad in terms of overall talent. I don't know if thats going to change either. You just have mediocre teams now that might play better as a team than they did 10 years ago, but the overall talent isn't there.orangeandbrown wrote:Last win was CMU in 2003. I disagree... its a cyclical thing... talent comes and goes... and the MAC has been on an up and down swing for years... just because there hasn't been some name NBA player the last two years doesn't mean there isn't tons of talent in the league....
look at this...
The Colonial Athletic Association was some rising confernce in the mid 90's they had some ridicilious amount of teams get in one year... 3 or so I believe... and then nothing for the better part of 10 years...
Other schools and programs have fallen, and fallen hard... for example Umass
The biggest downfall of the MAC has been the constant raiding of top coaches... BSU, Eastern Michigan, and Kent State have all seen their coaches leave for big time programs... this kills recruiting and momentmum most of the time... with the exception of Kent.
There is lots of talent in the MAC... I would argue that had OU's coaching staff lost control of their team, and losing Jeromy Fears has put a big hurt on the Bobcats and the MAC. BG losing NBA talent Ron Lewis hurts.
Other schools, my own Miami will not recruit an average student, it doesn't work, they don't handle the course load and end up leaving... but there is talent there as well, should the kids get a chance to develop their skills and not simply play Charlie ball. Granted I know BG would love the W's... but it is not fun to watch sometimes.
Alot of the great MAC players are self made... they cut 10lbs of fat and add 10lbs of muscle in the offseason. They shoot hundreds of jumpers a day. They push themselves to the top of the nation, not their coaches. Players are made in the offseason, coaches put together teams during the season.
Maybe we need to look at the heart of the athletes of this league and their dedication to an NBA career, or maybe we have a bunch of scholar athletes and they know they aren't destined for much beyond five great years of college life.
The next Wally, Antonio, or Bonzi is in our midst, we can't see ithem yet.
