If you are a Kool-Aid drinker, or a natural optimist you'll want to avoid the following:
Dear Abbey,
Following the poor ending to a great Lady Falcon basketball season I can't help but reflect on such a disappointing year in Falcon Sports. The high hopes we had for football, the disasterous state of affairs in mens hoops, the lack of a turnaround that was expected in men's hockey and the first round NCAA knockout today leave me, well, veklempt.
Congrats to an undefeated MAC season for the Lady Falcons, but they were expected to reach the tourney this year, and unfortunately beaten very handily by the Bruins. Someone cheer me up and tell me that this Omar departure to the NFL is just a nightmare, because I don't see good things on the horizon.
Sincerely,
Zulu Warrior in need of Zoloft

Keep your head up. There is at least another year of great women's bball, and you have to have hope for a good recruiting class for Falcon football. There is always the chance that another Omar may come into the mix. Go Falcons!!

You're wrong. The football team contended for a division championship till the last game of the season.

The Women's hoops team etched themselves as one of the best of all time.

The Men's hoops team went through a rough patch, no doubt. But from here you can only go up.

The Men's Hockey team beat 6 of the top 25 teams in the nation and was plagued with inconsistency.

Quit giving up before the fight's over.

How about this?

Falcon athletics. We talk passionately here about it. We argue. We accuse. We debate.

Its still only a game. If it bums you out too much, go to the symphony instead.

As far as my expectations go, its not all doom and gloom this year, but the year wasn't great by any stretch.

Football - (my guess was 9-2) Football was a bit of a dissapointment to me, with an asterisk. Losing Omar against WMU no doubt cost us a MAC East championship, probably an outright MAC championship too. There's no way we lose to WMU or Akron with Omar on the field. So I'll give the team a pass for those two games. Shoulda beaten Toledo though, that really sucked. Future Outlook - Honestly, despite the offensive upheaval this offseason, I still think we should get at least the same conference record next year, especially considering that three of our home games (EMU, Kent, Buffalo) are gimmies. We were road warriors this year, and I can see that happening again. The whole season could hinge on how Anthony Turner develops, and I have lots of faith in the guy. Prediction: 7-5

Men's Basketball - (my guess was 8-10 in the MAC) What a mess!!! This team absolutely laid down and died at the end of the season this year, a complete loss of will to compete by the players and a complete loss of control by the coach. This was ugly in every sense, especially coming home. Future Outlook - The outlook looks really grim here, at least as long as a certain somebody remains as coach. Transfers continue to kill the program, meaning we have no continuity at all. The strength of the MAC East means that it is unlikely we will succeed anytime soon. Prediction: 4-14 in the MAC, 10th place, 1st round tournament exit

Women's Basketball - This was one of the greatest seasons in history, unfortunately ending with a loss in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. All that proves is that there IS indeed a huge talent gap between the haves and have not conferences of women's basketball. That aside, this team is in good hands, with an outstanding senior core coming back next season, and the veteran coaching of Curt Miller. This team has won 25 in a row in the MAC, and its possible that that streak will continue through next season. Future Outlook - Beyond next year, there will be upheaval, but there will still be strong players coming in via recruiting this year and next, and by then Jasmine McCall should be a star point guard in the MAC, meaning that we could keep this train riding for a lot of years. Prediction: 15-1 in the MAC, MAC Champions

Hockey - I didn't know much about this team coming in, but after watching a few games at the Ice Arena, it was obvious that our defense is awful. That's something that is going to have to be addressed in the years coming forward. We were a pretty young team this year, but I was still quite dissapointed with our poor finish to this season. Future Outlook - It looks like we have a pretty good recruiting class coming in, and Spratt is turning into a fine goaltender after having an awful start to this year. Our chances next year could hinge on whether Matsumoto hangs around, because he is a stud. If he stays put and Spratt continues his progression, we should be hosting a first round playoff series next year. Prediction: 7th in the CCHA, quarterfinal exit from CCHA tourney

This is where I stand on these BG athletic teams right now. Its kind of a ragtag prediction at this early stage, but its what I expect to see right now if the 2006-07 academic year were to begin today.

Thanks for taking the time 24 for a solid overview. I hope the hockey team bounces back next year, I'm sure the women's team will be strong and I'm going to hold out hope that the football team continues to show strength.

And as far as going to the symphony Orange and Brown I saw the BGSU Men's Chorus on the Today show a couple of weeks back, does that count?

It's important to look beyond wins and losses when discussing an athletic director. Look at the type of coaching talent he's brought it. He hired an assistant AD to specifically handle marketing. There's the Sebo Center and a bunch of other non-on-the-field projects. Important stuff that will, eventually, shape Krebs' legacy.

Women's Soccer won the MAC and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 2nd straight year!!!

Also, the year is not done and we all have high expectations for Softball and Baseball.

Let's at least wait until the end of the year before we breakdown the overall success/failure of BGSU athletics.

its college sports and unless your part of the football monopoly you never know exactly what your going to get, and to think the AD is accountable for the results...yea maybe but i figure the buck stops with the coaches as far as team results go.
