Good to see a couple of bigger teams coming here next year, but I was wondering where you heard that from and if theres any other info about the non-conference schedule home or away?
As for the season, it may have ended on a sour note, but it was an AWESOME season, it was great to see all the support today at Purdue. I am so proud of this team, and I'm proud to say they have made me a fan of women's college basketball. Can't wait until next season, GO FALCONS!!!!! GET IN ROLLING IN 06/07

Just a lil inside info....ND is our opener (I know this for sure), and I'm almost positive Indiana is coming here too.

alright, just wondering, hope we get some big crowds for those two games
I have to agree with everyone else. UCLA just hit shots that you want them to take. They did a very good job of making the extra pass, and they hit the outside shots well. I saw a statistic during the game where their guards had outscored our guards something like 43-17 at one point. Quite a few of those shots were long range shots that you want them to take. We had the same shots, but ours weren't going in like you want them to. I also have to give UCLA credit on the defensive end. How many times did we get the ball inside, and they would block our shot? We got to the basket, and they were just there to stop us. I thought that our effort was there all game. I am very proud of this team. I know first hand how hard it is to go undefeated in any conference, and it is a feat that will never be forgotten. Especially at the DI level. I will not blame us not being able to stay with them because of a "weak" conference schedule. I think that EMU and Kent State are very good teams in our conference, but we were just that much better. Our girls won every game that they were supposed too, and most of them by the way they were supposed to win them. That says a lot about our team. I am looking forward to next year, our team is loaded in a lot of positions, and with a lot of senior leadership. From what I have heard, the recruits that we have coming in next year are going to bring more talent to add. Great job ladies, keep the fire in your stomach's, and there will be another chance for wins in the NCAA's. Next season can't come soon enough, for a couple of reasons for me, but work hard in the offseason, and roll along for another great year.
Here are my thoughts from the game:
Great effort put up by the Falcons today. They played great ball, but struggled with shooting...nothing to be ashamed of. You girls gave all you could give and that's all we ask of you. Perhaps being seeded higher would have helped, but what's done is done. I look forward to next year because I know we can be just as strong next year.
UCLA is a talented team. I don't think I've ever seen such consistent shooting, especially from outside the arc. But they also play dirtier than we did. They had over 20 fouls I think with most of their players having 2 or 3 fouls. I think the refs missed a lot of fouls, which means that they were playing hard but this leads me to...
The refs were....uh questionable. I feel bad about complaining because UCLA did have 20 fouls and we hardly fouled, but they missed a lot of calls. The upper section where I was extremely irate at the officiating. I was not alone in my angry cheers directed towards the refs (and even better was that I was agreed with when I would yell at the refs and players).
The fans! I was so excited to see a great turnout of fellow Falcon fans. My seat was originally across the arena (stupid ticket office at Purdue). When I got to my seat during the last half of the Purdue game, I had a great view of the sea of orange....it looked incredible. My sister and I moved to join the rest of the fans and it felt like being with family. Great job fans!
To Lafayette...I am glad to not being going back even though I really wanted to watch our ladies challenge Purdue. The town is hard to drive in, the directions you get on-line do not match up with signs. Your ticket office tries to be nice but they are clueless. Everything in the town was confusing. I was glad I got to go.
Thanks Falcons for a great season and here's to an even better 2006-2007 season!
GO FALCONS!!
"Our (insert sport or band) team is vastly superior to your (same sport or band) team!"
I have to say that even though we lost I still had a great time and really enjoyed the whole experience. Despite the uncomfortable prospect of trying to get a 6'4" body comfortable in a bus seat while trying to sleep, I enjoyed the ride (both there and back).
I honestly don't see how people can be thinking so negatively about this game though. UCLA was a 5 seed, arguably deserved slightly more than that, had a huge size advantage, and were on a hot-streak coming in... so how can people be so down and be knocking our conference play because we lost to them by 13? Our women had stretches where we absolutely dominated them, scoring often and stealing often (especially a big push in the second half), there just weren't enough of them.
I think the fact that we had three players in double-digit scoring and had 12 steals against a 5-seed team is awesome, and only shows that this team is excellent and can only get better.
All that aside, though, I have to say that I am not a fan of anything about UCLA after this experience. Their band's chanting of player names annoyed me (because it stretched on forever), their players were full of attitude, and they played very dirty.. how did Blue get away with all the complaining and bitching she did towards the officials? I saw her running her mouth after every call and pretty much throwing a hissy-fit at one of the officials, but it seemed nothing was said to her by any official, yet we get a technical early in the game...
I'm rooting for Purdue, both because their fans and staff were very kind to me (and our team) and because UCLA has jumped to a high position on my list of unliked teams.
Congratulations to the women on the stellar season, and here's to a bigger and better one next year!

what was the foul called on UCLA before the game even tipped off? the scoreboard showed them with one foul before the game started, and when the first PF was called, they announced it as the team's second.
and another note about the cheerleaders. it has been my understanding that rules prohibit cheerleaders from using megaphones while the ball is in play. am i dumb about this rule? why were they permitted to yell through their megaphones during free throws, and, frankly, any time that they wanted?

I agree, that was frustrating as all hell. At first I thought it was someone in the band, and I was ready to go give them hell. It didn't really piss me off any less that it was the cheerleaders.

i was mistaken. after looking through some stuff in the ncaa rulebook online, distraction by waving, hitting, or pounding megaphones is against the rules. yelling in them is not.

UCLA still sucks balls.
I now hate that school because of the lack of class shown by those girls and the other reps.
That was possibly the most frustrating sporting event I've ever attended. We were right there but we just didn't get it done.
I agree with everyone else as to how awesome our crowd was. It made me proud to be a Falcon. Even Lisa's cousin (grad student at Purdue) commented many times how awesome our crowd support was. Even the ovation the team got while they walked in and out during the Purdue game was amazing. Props to everyone who was there. It was nice to catch up with some old friends as well. Mackey Arena was awesome.
Another small note about crowds. Anyone else who came for the first game can attest to how awesome their crowd was. That's what I want AA to sound like for women's games next year. I want loud obnoxious crowds right from the first home game next year.
Purdue is going to stomp UCLA. We already found out via Missouri St. that Trains eat Bears.

BTW, how big was the UCLA section? Watching on TV, BG fans (U ROCKED!!) were all we heard!!
Not sure, but I was about ready to hurl if they showed that stupid UCLA parent one more time...do you think that maybe Honegger's family could have made the screen at least ONE FICKIN' TIME!!!
